אחד הסיפורים הכי מרגשים ששמעתי על כריסטיאנו רונאלדו:

כשרונאלדו היה בן 11 ושיחק בקבוצת הילדים במדיירה, המאמן שלו, ז’ואאו הרננדס, התחיל לשים לב למשהו מוזר.

בכל אימון הוא הגיע עם אותן נעלי כדורגל.

בהתחלה זה לא נראה חריג, אבל עם הזמן הנעליים הלכו והתפרקו. הסוליה כבר התחילה להיפתח, בצד אחד היה חור קטן שאפשר לראות דרכו את הגרב, והשרוכים היו קשורים שוב ושוב כדי שלא ייקרעו לגמרי.

הילדים האחרים כבר התחילו לצחוק עליו.

אבל רונאלדו לא אמר מילה.

הוא היה הראשון להגיע לאימון והאחרון לעזוב. הוא שיחק כאילו הוא נועל את הנעליים הכי יקרות בעולם.

בסוף אחד האימונים, המאמן ביקש ממנו להישאר עוד כמה דקות.

כשהמגרש התרוקן, הוא הלך לרכבו וחזר עם קופסה.

“בוא, יש לי משהו בשבילך.”

רונאלדו פתח את הקופסה וראה זוג נעלי כדורגל חדשות.

הם נפגשו ליד אותו מגרש קטן שבו הכול התחיל.

רונאלדו חיבק אותו, הודה לו על כל מה שעשה עבורו, והגיש לו קופסה קטנה.

בפנים היו המפתחות לרכב חדש.

המאמן הסתכל עליו ואמר:
“זה יותר מדי.”

ורונאלדו חייך.

“לא, זוג נעליים היה הרבה יותר.”

אבל מבחינתו זה עדיין לא הספיק.

כמה חודשים אחר כך הוא הקים במדיירה את קרן ז’ואאו הרננדס – עמותה שמעניקה נעלי כדורגל, ציוד ואפשרות להתאמן לילדים ממשפחות שאין להן יכולת כלכלית.

רונאלדו בעצמו דואג להעביר לקרן מיליון דולר בכל שנה.

כששאלו אותו למה דווקא נעליים, הוא ענה:
