@pjmcgeary Someone with an elevator in their house did this to us. Called us back with a complaint thinking we were the ones she hired. The voice message rant was damage to the elevator and stainless steel scratches everywhere. She won’t find them. ✈️
If you run trucks with your brand on them you absolutely need to charge more, add GPS, real time data, cameras, and at the extreme level the DUI thing you need to test before it starts. The risk with land missiles ruining you or someone else with one error is real.
@rack_jesse Tough tough tough decision but your teams knew it was needed before you did, and it was the right thing. Now, the thousands of smaller companies in different segments juggling the same issues need to take note. (Yes we did something similar but much smaller scale.)
It’s utterly amazing how being average in a service trade but available to answer your cell at 8pm or on weekends can make you the perceived #1 referred insiders choice compared to a legacy #1 that shuts down at 5pm, is off weekends, but relies on a serious marketing budget.
Totally get why many would get into it with a prospect like this but the best is simply a thank you for the opportunity to quote and move on. This prospect will murder your crew, the job and still challenge your invoice.
Had the strangest freak out from a quote today. Guy lost his mind that we charge $175 / labor hour.
He said “Max I’ll pay is $40. I’m not paying these guys to make $300k per year. I’m a financial advisor, I know numbers!”
I said “Sure. Will you also be providing them their truck, tools, fuel, shop, phone, and insurance? Because if not, I’m glad you’re not my financial advisor”
@DBarnettMoncton True. Could also be ill, or they’re discounting it for a quick deal to move fast on another. Time is a valuable currency. Dig deeper, then assess. The clues are there.
Me, after losing RFP 90 days ago, now being asked to roll out 150 stores at our fair price b/c the lowest bid hasn’t paid staff, can’t get equipment, and their website shows a 404 page.
@irentdumpsters Yes. A bad is better free genuine commercial airtime to share your ‘we’re sorry and we’ll do better’, to then post a 500 word narrative on why it means we’re still worthy. We’ve done better replying to bad ones than good. Too many good look like payola anyway.
@MatznerJon Great discussion gents. I’m with you both and have to say the market for vendors that fulfill the wants of the exceptions seeking customer will always be healthy. But also an opportunity for proper ones to flourish when they fail.
@RandBusiness They left while you’re away. Did you a favor and will do it again. Some went to you doing the same. Look at what you’re doing when you found out. Many alive never see a vacay. Your best will fill the gap or ask around for you. You get the revenue back. Good clients understand.
