Last night my small group from church was discussing when to assign the label “demonic” to something. I hesitate to overuse the term out of fear I’m being presumptuous. But failing to use it at all can be blinding.
That said… This is demonic and the activity of Satan.
A test of the health of your mindset, focus, and your heart is whether the gospel of Jesus still stirs you to worship and animates you to tell others about Jesus.
This passage of Scripture is good to read without the chapter and verse separations.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”
— 2 Timothy 3:16 - 4:4
“Abortion is blatant paganism … Nothing more clearly demonstrates the moral collapse of a society than the mass murd3r of little ones in the wombs of their mothers.”
-John MacArthur
The Bible is a complex book.
But within that complexity is the most amazing and intricate story where every part ultimately points to and reveals Jesus Christ.
This isn’t what tongues is. This is trash.
How many problems can you list?
I’ll give you just six.
1. This is exactly the kind of “tongues” that the NT forbids. Of course the comments are full of people who think you’re crazy.
2. These aren’t any kind of real tongues. It’s repetitive gibberish unlike any real language. The Bible speaks of “tongues” which always means real “languages” and not just your tongue flopping around as you make weird sounds.
3. They are sending this stream out to everyone they can, as though tongues was meant to showboat or demonstrate their own spirituality. The opposite of the rule of edification in 1 Corinthians 14.
4. There is no interpretation and Scripture says if you don’t have someone interpret them stop talking openly in tongues.
5. There is no prayer FOR interpretation. Scripture requires this.
6. The dude is reading and responding to chat messages as he makes goofy noises, pretending it is tongues.
Look, I support tongues as we see it in the Bible. But what you see in this video is an all too common mockery of this beautiful work of the Holy Spirit. Better to say nothing at all than to perform this circus of unbiblical blabbery.
Believers will become more Christlike over time, but never more righteous. Our righteous status is all Christ’s, not the result of our self-improvement.
In case you missed it… God’s eternal plan of redemption is going off without a hitch.
We have every reason to have hope and joy because Jesus is coming back and we will spend eternity with Him.
One day there will be no more wickedness, sadness, cancer, abortion, oppression, or blasphemy. Everything will be in perfect peace and order forever and ever.
No matter what’s going on in your life or around the world, God is seeking and saving the lost. He is advancing the cause of righteous and the truth of the gospel through faithful believers.
Every unseen and unsung step you take in obedience and honor to the Lord echos into eternity and advances the cause of Christ.
When we believe that measures such as membership growth and financial gain in a ministry are proof of likeness to God, we will then make decisions that silence unwelcome truths about fraud or abuse and tell ourselves the cover-up “preserves God’s honor.”
