AT, CH attract a lot.

FR, DE, BE, ES are open places: as many leave as arrive.

IE is a closed system.

Universities have got to increase PhD stipends with the inflation rate.

It makes sense for a university to do that because if you want to get decent research, the researchers can’t be worried about paying basic living expenses.

EMBL management seems to be ok with giving those at the bottom of their pay scale no adjustment, while staff in Heidelberg got 4.2% in July 2021 and 3.8% in July 2022. Heidelberg fellows only 1.4% in Jan 2022 and (likely) 1.8% in Jan 2023
