@JulieTestAchats just shared some problems that consumers face when accessing medicines.
With 53% of consumers experiencing symptoms or problems for not being able to access their medicines, the EU does have an important role in preventing shortages‼️
Ondertussen wordt bij #netwerkSaRA op kosten van de belastingbetaler, onder de conventie voor psychologen, binnenkort nog maar eens een "groepstherapie" familieopstellingen georganiseerd ... Zucht. Hoe is dat mogelijk? @RIZIV_INAMI@VVKP@demorgen@DieterDeCleene

Oh here we go again… I can’t wait for this study to be misused and misrepresented by the usual hands on brigade! 🙄🤦♂️
A v’s A+B trials are always going to favour A+B… and it doesn’t matter what that B is… it could be manual therapy, hypnotherapy or any other placebo!
...The group identified a natural compound in Tara flour. It was called Baikiain. Baikiain was the most abundant natural compound in tara seeds and hence in tara flour. They looked at what Baikiain did to cells. It bound to an enzyme called L-pipecolate oxidase leading to irreversible injury and cell death.
So the researchers purified Baikiain and fed it to some mice in their lab and found that the rodents got sick and dehydrated and their liver tests started going haywire and the liver enzymes staggeringly increased along with a reduction in the protective anti-oxidant enzyme called glutathione synthetase or GSH.
Baikiain was killing the liver cells by irreversibly destroying its anti-oxidant function.
In November 2023, this month, a group of researchers presented their findings on how Tara flour damaged the liver. The liver and bile duct injury was so severe that patients developed jaundice and severe itching and sometimes pain so severe that mimicked gall bladder disease which inadvertently led to removal of gall bladders from some of the patients affected.

The product was now lost into oblivion. Tara flour disappeared from the shelves in the USA. Researchers who worked to identify potential harms of supposedly "safe natural products." and a regulatory framework that cared for public health got to the bottom of the mysterious illness that would have made many more seriously ill...2/2

Fun fact: there's no evidence that sugar actually makes children hyperactive
In fact, parents usually can't tell whether their kids have had sugary vs sugar free candy in scientific investigations
Some good(ish) news for Halloween!

Als je wat wilt weten over het idee van lichaamsherinneringen, is deze lezing van @CarriePoppyYES een veel grotere aanrader dan het interview met van der Kolk in de Standaard vandaag. https://t.co/RcASwLoVI6
Many people are told their shoulder issues are due to their shoulder blades or ‘scapula’ moving incorrectly often referred to ‘dyskinesis’ to sound more sciencey and clever!
But heres why you don’t need to worry about your shoulder blades if you have shoulder problems…
We spend a load of money and analysed around 134 Homeopathy formulations including standard dilutions that are commonly prescribed by Homeopathic practitioners. This was done as part of our Placebo Project [a self funded project for public health]. A detailed paper will follow soon, after peer review.
Using the best analytical technology we deep dived into these very commonly used and prescribed Homeopathic formulations and found that they contained...
...ONLY alcohol.
Some as high as 90% v/v.
And nothing else.
This is just crazy. All that Homeopaths are doing, in the best given scenario, in the name of "prevention & treatment" is that they are MICRO-DOSING patients with alcohol. Alcohol is not medicine.
And people who claim Homeopathy is working for them, must also describe and discuss how alcohol does all of that for their disease.
With fitness, it’s easy to get hung up on constant improvement.
But even maintaining fitness is a win - because we’re actively offsetting any losses that would otherwise occur.
And it doesn’t take much:
- 2 x aerobic training sessions per week (12-26 min per session) can maintain endurance and cardiorespiratory fitness (if intensity/heart rate is maintained)
- 1 x resistance training session per week (1 set per exercise) can maintain muscle size and strength (if intensity/load lifted is maintained)

I tried that instant AI translation tool (https://t.co/FXcqohlwuq) and it's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
I gave it a 35 second video of me speaking English.
And this is what I got - that's my voice! But I don't speak a word of German...
Exercise protects against age-related declines in physical performance.
A single year of exercise reverses the trajectory of physical function in older adults (aged ~73):
WITHOUT exercise:
- 6-minute walk test: ❌-18.7%
- Chair stands: ❌-24.5%
- Timed up-and-go: ❌-19.4%
WITH exercise (aerobic/strength/balance/flexibility):
- 6-minute walk test: ✅+10.9%
- Chair stands: ✅+30.6%
- Timed up-and-go: ✅+9.2%

Do I need to leave 2-3 days between resistance training sessions?
Well, not necessarily.
Non-strength trained males who trained on 3 consecutive days per week had similar improvements in strength and body composition (after 12 weeks) to those leaving 48-72 hours between sessions.

No time for a ‘full’ exercise session?
It’s fine to spread out your exercise throughout the day.
And in some cases it might even increase the benefits.
“Collectively our findings suggest that adults are likely to accrue similar health benefits from exercising in a single bout or accumulating activity from shorter bouts throughout the day.”
