@SeannachaidhS @SymbolStones @MsMelChen Because the English state and Scottish state were absorbed into Great Britain and its colonial ventures after became the responsibility of wealthy English and Scottish aristocrats, with no English or Scottish folk even given the opportunity to vote for it.

The Darien scheme failed which was started to exploit the trans-Atlantic slave trade and use slaves to mine the gold in Panama. It failed and left Scotland financially bankrupt, joining the union became financially convenient.

@SeannachaidhS @SymbolStones @MsMelChen Great Britain was a union of Scotland and England, even though parliament was seated in London it was not an English parliament, it was a British parliament consisting of Scottish and English aristocrats elected by those same people as the peasantry couldn’t vote.

@daveed_1931 @Coach_E_P It stems from the peasantry/ working classes having no access to the new herbs/spices/flavours that were brought over from colonialism. They do now, so most of us just cook cuisines from other cultures. A roast dinner and beans on toast with my fav herbs and spices does slap tho
