“Error, indeed, is never set forth in its naked deformity, lest, being thus exposed, it should at once be detected. But it is craftily decked out in an attractive dress, so as, by its outward form, to make it appear to the inexperienced more true than the truth itself.”

ND can whine about Bama and Miami all they want. Those two teams proved they belong and are moving on. It’s Tulane that everyone should be mad about. This game is 100% as expected—embarrassing.
@sheknowskevo@SECOfficiating Winning by 7 is better than losing by 7. You’re 1-7 in the SEC and you’re complaining about officiating? You’ve got bigger problems
@PatrickE_Vegas If you’re complaining that a garbage time goal line play wasn’t reviewed because “the over”, it’s time to call the gambling hotline. 1-800-522-4700
I’m going to assume anyone who calls the Book of Mormon a work of“literary mega genius” either hasn’t read it or never graduated from picture books. It reads like bad biblical fan fiction
If Joseph Smith fabricated the Book of Mormon himself that means he was a singular literary mega genius in all human history.
He could have sold the Book of Mormon as a work of fiction for profit, then created, and sold many more literary works. He could have produced more works than Mark Twain and Charles Dickens, and lived a very comfortable life with a nice fat income from his literary work.
But instead Joseph was like:
"Nah, I'm taking the path where I will sell a massive hoax my entire life, I will always be financially strained, and countless people will constantly be salivating to kick my ass or murder me. Yeah, that sounds like a great life."
@MateyYanakiev@gfbc1689 Sure, but you could say the same thing about Mormons, (plenty of conviction and zeal) and I’m not going to waste anyone’s time recommending their works
I’m always amazed at the evangelicals (like @gavinortlund here) who overtly advocate for *selective* imitation of the character and speech of Christ, the prophets, and the apostles.
“Imitate Christ’s gentleness, but not his serrated edge. Imitate Ezekiel’s zeal, but not his rhetoric.”
It strikes me as a subtle attempt to be holier than God.
