While global support for developing countries has fallen, the World Cup brings a moment of hope and unity for all, especially children. Big thanks to Minister @randeepssarai and @RightToPlayIntl for supporting the #FIFAGlobalCitizenEducationFund campaign! https://t.co/Q2LketE4jR
We welcome Canada’s CAD $5 million announcement for children’s education globally through the No Child on the Sidelines initiative! Thank you, Minister @randeepssarai🇨🇦📚
In collaboration with @RightToPlayIntl and @CanadaDev, this project aligns with the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund to bring play-based learning to the kids who need it most. Of this commitment, CAD $2.25 million will go directly in grants to grassroots organizations in developing countries, with additional funds to strengthen their capacities and foster shared learning opportunities. The goal?
✨ Improve access to education
✨ Create safe spaces for kids to learn and play
✨ Build resilience and life skills
Times are tough and Canadians are uncertain about the future. But one thing's for sure: #CanadianAid saves lives & makes the world more secure. We join over 100 orgs in raising concern about #Budget2025's $2.7B in cuts. We must sustain 🇨🇦's global impact. https://t.co/Yj05aY4SO3
Polio is 99% eradicated — a remarkable global achievement. But the only way we can full get rid of it is by funding the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. On World Polio Day, I’m joining those calling to close the gap and finish the job. Together, we can end polio for good
We had a blast joining @IrlAmbCanada to host friends in Ottawa this past week for an inspiring discussion with our co-founder @micksheldrick and an incredible performance by @cityandcolour! We're also grateful to Minister @randeepssarai for attending and sharing remarks. ⭕️🇨🇦
Thank you for taking the time, Minister @randeepssarai! We are excited to work together to advance sustainability, access to education, and Canada’s international impact broadly in the weeks and months to come. ⭕️🇨🇦
Canada and @glblctzncan are committed to advancing the fight against extreme poverty. We both know that investing in global health, education, and sustainable development builds a more equitable and prosperous world for everyone.
Thank you Minister @randeepssarai for re-emphasizing Canada’s commitment in Brussels this evening! We’re looking forward to working with you on more development impact to come.
Thank you, Canada, for being one of the earliest commitment makers to @gavi this year! We welcomed the govt's 12.5% increased commitment back in March, and are grateful for @MarkJCarney's commitment to protect and sustain #CanadianAid for those most in need around the world. 🇨🇦
Congrats @juliedabrusin! One of the questions that may quickly cross your desk is how will Canada follow up its 2021 international climate finance commitment, coming due this year? With the #G7 & #COP30 on the horizon, Canada can set the tone for the world to follow!
Sharing our congrats to @randeepssarai, @MSidhuLiberal & @AnitaAnandMP on becoming Ministers for International Development, Trade and Foreign Affairs! Canada can show the world that international cooperation is still worth fighting for, and we look forward to working with you. 🇨🇦
Congrats PM @MarkJCarney! This is a big moment for Canada to bring leadership & ambition to the world stage, and we look forward to working with you. We're thankful for your pledge to protect #CanadianAid, and are ready to re-engage Conservatives to discuss its value and impact.
The platform promises to:
• Support global institutions like the UN/its agencies
• Keep humanitarian aid at min. $800M/year
• Protect funding for SRHR & education
• Continue climate finance to grow private investment & help the poorest countries adapt to climate change.
The Liberal platform is out and it includes a strong commitment to #CanadianAid, despite this moment of crisis and even as other wealthy nations cut back.
"...we will not forget what Canada stands for - a world where everyone can live with equal rights, dignity, and respect."
Congrats to Minister @melaniejoly who on top of being Minister of Foreign Affairs now adds International Development to her portfolio under new PM @MarkJCarney. In this moment of global upheaval, aid and development must be part of any serious Canadian foreign policy.
Civil society organisations play a unique and vital role in supporting @Gavi’s mission to leave no-one behind with immunisation. I met with global health champions and experts from the Government of Canada and Canadian Civil Society Organisations including @ONE_in_Canada, @CanWaCH, @ResultsCda and @GlblCtznCAN.
Canada has a new Prime Minister-designate — congrats to @MarkJCarney! During the leadership campaign debate, Carney talked up maintaining Canada’s international assistance, in contrast to President Trump’s dismantling of USAID. We hope to see all parties make that commitment.
@HonAhmedHussen@gavi Thank you for prioritizing this key commitment to protect kids around the world! We’re grateful to you and Canadian leaders for stepping up in this challenging moment while others are stepping back.
🚨 Big news! Canada just pledged CAD $675 million to @gavi, a crucial commitment that will help deliver life-saving vaccines to 500 million kids over the next 5 years. 💉 Here’s why this is such a big deal 🧵https://t.co/LC2HDaXZpT
While other countries have reduced funding to #endpolio, Canada continues to step up — now with a new $151 million pledge! 👏
Thank you @HonAhmedHussen & @JustinTrudeau for bringing Canada's total funding for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to over $1 billion since 2000!
