"THE THREAT" - How Empire Manufactures Its Enemies

Remember John Pilger's words as the US gears up once again for a disastrous, pointless war, this time against Iran:

"Anybody who studies the so-called foreign policies of the US and its vassals will know that an enemy is essential. Whether or not they are an enemy is beside the point.

There's no real enemy. But an enemy is needed."

From Russia to China to Iran. The enemy rotates. The pattern stays the same.

"When I was in the military, briefs never mentioned any country by name. They were always referred to as THE THREAT. The Threat is whatever they decide at the time."

Read that again. Not "Iraq." Not "Iran." Not "China." Not "Russia." Just "THE THREAT."

An interchangeable designation. A blank space to be filled as required. Today it's Iran. Yesterday it was Russia. Before that, Iraq. The country changes. The machinery stays the same.

Right now, an armada sails towards Iran. Warships. Carrier strike groups. Bombers repositioned. The familiar choreography of manufactured crisis.

They are THE THREAT at this time.

The Pattern:

IRAQ: WMDs that didn't exist → 1 million dead

AFGHANISTAN: 20 years, £2 trillion → Taliban back in power

LIBYA: "Humanitarian intervention" → Open-air slave market

SYRIA: Regime change failed → Country destroyed

RUSSIA/UKRAINE: "Domino effect - if Ukraine falls, we're next!"

Same rhetoric they used for Vietnam. NATO expanded to Russia's border despite promises it wouldn't. Now British pensioners freeze while energy companies post record profits and Lockheed Martin shareholders get rich.

The threat is always existential. The weapons sales are always real. Your heating bill doubled. Their dividends tripled.

IRAN: Next on the list. Same lies. Same machinery. Same outcome.

And ordinary people, whose lives are filled with all sorts of other things, have the right to understand it beyond headlines that give only one side, one view.

So here's what they won't tell you in those headlines:

Iran hasn't invaded another country in over 200 years. The US has military bases in 80 countries and has bombed 14 Muslim-majority nations since 2001. Who's the threat?

Iran's crime isn't aggression. It's independence. It's refusing to be a vassal state. It's maintaining control over its own resources. That's what makes a country "THE THREAT" in imperial logic.

The armada sailing towards Iran isn't about democracy or human rights or national security. It's about maintaining a global order where certain nations give orders and others obey. Where resources flow upward and bombs rain down on anyone who resists.

Your children might die enforcing this. Iranian children definitely will. Working-class kids from Bolton and Birmingham sent to kill working-class kids from Tehran and Tabriz, all to protect oil company profits and arms manufacturer shares.

John Pilger spent his life exposing this machinery. He's gone now. But his words remain urgent:

"An enemy is essential."

Not real. Essential. Essential to the system. Essential to the arms industry. Essential to politicians who need external threats to distract from domestic failure. Essential to a media class that profits from war coverage.

The Threat. Whatever they decide. Whenever they decide.
Right now, they've decided it's Iran.

Don't let them manufacture your consent for another catastrophic war.

George Carlin warned us: the moment your identity becomes your ideology, you've already lost.

Because when an idea is you, any challenge doesn't feel like disagreement, it feels like an attack.

So what do you do? You retreat. You build a bubble. A lovely, padded echo chamber where everyone agrees, everyone applauds on cue, and nobody ever asks uncomfortable questions.

And here's the thing about bubbles: they don't deflate slowly. They pop. All at once. Violently.

Look around. The bubbles are bursting everywhere.

The "vote Labour no matter who" crowd, watching Sir Keir Starmer hit 79% disapproval in eighteen months. A government without direction, thirteen U-turns. A prime minister acting like a protagonist from an Orwellian novel, suspending local elections, pushing anti-protest laws, arresting social media users, journalists and bloggers for tweets and comments.

The flag-waving Tories, cheering every time the corpse twitches in its grave. Twenty of their MPs have already fled to Farage. Kemi Badenoch stood before cameras saying she was "100% confident" there'd be no more defections. Two more quit the same week. Robert Jenrick, the man who promised to "put Reform out of business", is now their poster boy. It's not even a party anymore. It's a hospice with a leadership contest.

Reform supporters pretending a city banker is going to save the working class. Pretending to be the party of change while opening their arms to the refugees escaping the zombie plague of the Conservative Party, that's turning them into The Tories 2.0.

Pretending that the same class establishment MPs who ran the old order are going to overthrow it. Anti-establishment politics, staffed by establishment CVs. That’s not rebellion, it's body snatching.

And then there’s the liberal-institutional bubble that talks a very big game about “women’s rights” until women actually try to exercise them. In Darlington, eight female nurses raised concerns about a trans colleague using the women’s changing room.

One nurse, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, had panic attacks when he kept asking her, alone, "Are you getting changed yet?"

The NHS told them to "broaden their mindset" and "get re-educated." Their union rep? He was representing the man instead. When the Health Secretary agreed to meet them, UNISON's president called it "pandering to anti-trans bigots."

They cancelled the nurses' memberships. Reported four of them to police for hate crimes. Tried to have their nursing licences revoked.

These women had to form their own union just to get representation. Last week, a tribunal ruled the NHS had unlawfully harassed them. But the same people who wave placards about bodily autonomy threw these women to the wolves because the ideology demanded it.

And the "rules-based international order" lot, the ones who spent years lecturing everyone about sovereignty and human rights. Suddenly unable to locate Venezuela or Gaza on a map. Over 70,000 Palestinians dead. More than a thousand ceasefire violations since October. Four hundred killed during the ceasefire. And who's sitting on Trump's new "Board of Peace"? Tony Blair. The architect of Iraq. You couldn't write satire this cruel.

Meanwhile, Trump slaps tariffs on eight NATO allies, including Britain, because he wants to buy Greenland. Starmer calls it "completely wrong." Then immediately says we mustn't "ramp up a war of words with allies." Pick a spine, any spine.

Modern politics isn't about ideas anymore. It's not even about winning arguments. It's about picking a tribe and defending it, no matter how absurd the contradictions become.
It's tribalism wearing rosettes. The lunatics running the asylum.

Pick a side. Stop thinking. Clap when the light comes on.
And the people running things? They don't have tribes. They have interests. And their interests don't change depending on who wins the election.

George Carlin saw this decades ago. And every single day, reality keeps proving him right.

Here’s the kicker: the same people who manufacture the chaos always turn up with the “solution”. And every time they do, it costs us a little more liberty.

This time they’re calling it a New World Order. When it arrives, it won’t just be one bubble that bursts. It’ll be all of them, at once. Either way, when the bubbles finally pop, they won’t matter which tribe you're in and they won't ask our permission.

They're out of ideas and the Iron heel is going to come stomping down...
