@xTheGoodNews We have all sinned against a holy God who is perfect. Christ, God the Son, came to save by dying after a perfect life. His righteousness is imputed to those who believe & their sins to him on the cross. He suffered the wrath those who do & shall believe on him deserve.
@JustusPeccator1@TheOrthoEnsign We must have our face continually set against sin, but God is the one who crushes sin.
This is very much in line with Puritan thought.
@innercoding@BryanSaysStuff@AngloVarangian Not when you don't have reading literacy.
You folk think the Bible is some sort of enigma. Key doctrines in it are crystal clear.
@amillaaaa@TheOrthoEnsign@JeromeChukwuwem "Jesus died for sinners, so why not me?"
How do you know it is or isn't you?
You're still commanded to come. That's the only way you'll find out.
And if you do come, the answer is, it is for you.
@CCShap7@ErickYbarra3 These are not even saying it is infallible. The message of the gospel is divine. The message ministers preach daily is divine although they speak not infallibly.
@badtechnotakes@ErickYbarra3 There is no indication that that is infallible apart from what is in Scripture or prophecy not recorded. There is no indication their ordinary preaching was infallible.
@EasternMilk Communicants must be able to examine themselves lest they be guilty, 1 Co 11:27-28
Not sure of the Eastern view but even Rome says the Eucharist is administered 2 believers. Its not an ordinance 4 unbaptised. So u wouldnt b allowing either unless u believe baptism saves w/o faith
@USAtoast@EvangelicalDW Believers hate what crucified their Saviour.
Where do we draw the line? Can you be a Christian and think murder is OK?
Abhor that which is evil, Rom 12:9
Ye that love the LORD, hate evil, Psalm 97:10
@CatholicTheist@BishopJaxi We dont deny Church authority. We deny that were 2 get interpretations passed on like a baby given milk
Neither does Rome believe that. You dont have many passages infallibly interpreted so there r disagreements among yourselves
You merely + another step 2 the "circular" argument
@CatholicTheist@BishopJaxi Protestants do not function in a vacuum. We have creeds and confessional standards to adhere to, not by binding but by our assent to them as Christians. These are essentially similar and based on the Church's historical teachings as well as developments against heresy.
@JustusPeccator1@TheOrthoEnsign In other places he's very focused on the work of the Spirit & reliance on God.
Is it a work to not give into sin?
It could be argued some mentions of "good works/fruit" are merely cessation from evil deeds. It still needs God's help. But in practice it's resistance to temptation.
@TheOrthoEnsign@JustusPeccator1 A minister from my Church when mentioning the verse this idea comes from emphasises that it is by the Spirit.
It is all about being proactive to your responsibility while also realising you can do nothing in yourself.
Prayer is the antidote.
@megbasham Yep. They claim to be for women's rights while supporting a system of law that would permit beating women for not wearing the burqa. They claim to be pro rainbow cult while supporting people who murder gays in the street.
It's not about rights. It's about destroying our culture.
@EasternMilk For those without saving faith the Eucharist is ineffectual & Christ doesn't meet them in it but condemns. You need testable saving faith normatively so we would allow professors of any age/ability. We wouldn't bar a disabled person if it were clear he intended to express faith.
@EasternMilk By faith as John 6. Faith in Christ the Bread of Life makes ordinances effectual-unless He uses them to give faith; the Eucharist feeds not regenerates. By partaking in faith we confess His death thus partake of His flesh& blood. His physical flesh& blood are not in the elements.
