You’ll do lots of important things today and make lots of important decisions too.
But don’t forget the importance of smiling, laughing, and enjoying your students and colleagues.
Those moments of lightheartedness and connection are probably more valuable than we ever realize.
Please remember that all those interactions you have with your students outside of the lesson really matter. The smiles... the eye contact... the jokes... the fist bumps... the silliness...they’re all important. They remind kids that they matter. Those moments can mean the world.
One of the most valuable skills any educator can develop is the ability to see things from the student's perspective.
Know your students. Know their strengths and interests. And know what makes them unique.

Fair means everyone gets what they need. Equal means everyone gets the same. Tell kids, “I promise to be fair which means I will not always treat you all exactly the same way.” Then be fair & stop worrying about treating them all the same way. #edchat#thatonekid#kidsdeserveit
25 years from now, there will be adults who share your name. They will remember you... and they will tell somebody about the difference you made for them. You will be that teacher who made an impact. But right now...they’re still kids. And you have no idea which ones they are.

A challenge of parenting is discipline. Both doing it and staying w it. How much is too much? How much is not enough. The phrase, “This is gonna hurt me more..” is so real. Holding the line when we see their little faces is tough and necessary. Discipline is central to success.
Teach kids to pick their heads up in class. Not bc it’s disrespectful to the teacher. Bc if you don’t hold your own head high why would others think highly of you? It’s about respect & dignity for them, not us. #edchat#kidsdeserveit
