If your flight is cancelled, you may be able to get rebooked, and/or a refund plus extra compensation.

I assume a strike is "within the airlines control".

@WestJetNews How does this work for someone who has booked a round trip leaving during that window, but coming back afterwards (i.e. May 19-23)? Are the departing and return flights eligible for a cancellation or change free of charge?

Just had an incredibly disturbing talk with my neighbor. Their building got bought and everyone is being evicted by June 30. Neighbor is on ODSP. the wait time for housing in @RegionWaterloo is years. what resources can I share to help my neighbor? This is in Kitchener ward 10.

@antmar42 It depends on what they knew at the time. was it targeted or were there signs that the shooters would continue?
I also noticed that the shooting happened at 2:40 and we got the alert 3+hrs later.
I hope there's a feedback/review process so we can get better at this.

People died in the Nova Scotia shooting because the RCMP didn't send out an emergency alert. Those shootings spanned 74km (about the distance between Hagersville and Cambridge). The OPP did a lot wrong in today's alerts, but I'm not convinced the alert should have not been sent.

@antmar42 I think we are at a point where it's easier for law enforcement to over-alert us. I didn't indicate on the first tweet that this tweet is the first on a thread which basically says that it's not enough to send an alert with no additional information or follow up.

@PeerSpencer Media might argue that emergency comms is LE's job.
But also, established media get government subsidies because the gov't decided that healthy media is a public good. So perhaps media should be funneling some of that money towards covering this type of thing.

While I'm very sorry for the officer and his family, my primary concern this evening was finding up to date information that would help me keep myself safe. I didn't get this information making the alert useless.

Later this evening when I wanted to get an update on whether the shelter in place was still on:
-the emergency alert webpage had just been removed from the internet
-news coverage was tributes to the officer with a mention that the suspects were in custody as an afterthought

Two new ways of pronouncing things I've learned since I started working at an Australian company:

1. here is actually a 2 syllable word (hee-ah; not here)
2. my name is no longer Lisa, it's Lee-sir.

The amount of sacrifice drivers will have to make is so small (literally less than 1km)! compared to the benefits that the people (not cars but humans) who live in the neighborhood could get by not having to run across a dangerous crossing when they walk along Lancaster.

The distance between the Bridgeport and Lancaster offramps is 2.1km on city streets, 1.4km on the highway. We are asking southbound drivers to go an extra 700m.

Northbound, city streets is 1.6km vs 1.8 on the highway. So less distance, driven slower.
