27 giugno 2022, la stella degli Charlotte Hornets, Miles Bridges, viene arrestato con un'accusa molto pesante: avrebbe massacrato di botte sua moglie, tentando anche di strangolarla, procurandole varie fratture e una grave commozione cerebrale. In aggiunta è stato accusato anche di maltrattamenti su due minori (i suoi figli), che hanno confermato testualmente "Papà ha soffocato la mamma". Lascia il carcere dopo aver pagato una cauzione di 130.000 dollari.

4 novembre 2022, Bridges non contesta le accuse e riesce ad evitare il carcere patteggiando una pena di 3 anni di libertà vigilata con la condizionale, accettando il divieto di non potersi avvicinare a meno di 100 metri dalla residenza della moglie per 10 anni (non gli viene tolto l'affidamento congiunto dei figli). Deve anche seguire 52 settimane di terapie e lezioni, e prestare 100 ore di volontariato.

14 aprile 2023, la NBA sospende ufficialmente Bridges per sole 30 partite: ma 20 partite vengono conteggiate nella stagione 2022/2023 che Bridges salta totalmente per i problemi fuori dal campo e perchè free agent, e 10 nella stagione 2023/2024. (la sospensione di Morant è stata di 25 partite).

3 luglio 2023, Bridges firma una qualifying offer da 7.9 milioni e torna ad essere ufficialmente un giocatore degli Charlotte Hornets.

5 ottobre 2023, Bridges riceve due denunce: a gennaio 2023 ha violato la libertà vigilata andato a casa della moglie, minacciandola, e rompendole lo specchietto dell'auto. A ottobre (un mese e mezzo fa) ha violato di nuovo la libertà vigilata danneggiando l'abitazione della moglie e colpendo la sua auto con palle da biliardo mentre all'interno c'erano anche i figli. I capi di imputazione sono tre. Nelle prossime settimane ci sarà un nuovo processo a suo carico.

13 ottobre 2023, viene emesso un mandato di arresto a suo carico. Bridges si costituisce e poi viene rilasciato dopo il pagamento di una cauzione di soli 1000 dollari. La sera cambia la sua foto profilo su twitter mettendo quella di Johnny Depp per schernire sua moglie.

18 novembre 2023, all'alba italiana di ieri mattina, Bridges è tornato ufficialmente in campo (foto) davanti al proprio pubblico, dopo aver scontato le 10 partite di sospensione di questa stagione. Al quinto minuto della partita casalinga contro Milwaukee, è stato accolto da tantissimi applausi del pubblico di Charlotte. Nel momento del suo ingresso ha indicato il cielo con le mani. Ha poi chiuso la partita con 17 punti e 5 rimbalzi.

Mentre un condannato per gravissimi reati nei confronti di una ragazza (sua moglie), in attesa di un altro processo per ulteriori violenze nei confronti della stessa (e non solo), veniva accolto da grandi applausi per essere tornato a giocare a basket, a migliaia di chilometri di distanza, nel nostro Paese, si consumava ancora una volta ciò che purtroppo tutti sappiamo.

Quegli applausi sono parte del problema.
La punta dell'iceberg di un enorme problema quasi sempre non affrontato o affrontato nel modo sbagliato (come nel caso di Bridges). Permetteteci di dire che secondo noi è stata una pagina veramente brutta del nostro sport.

Hi @SixtPortugal, I'm still waiting on why I got charged extra for returning my car earlier, when you told me multiple times that it was not going to be the case, but you took no time to try to charge me for a scratch that was there from the start. Any chance I can get an answer?
