An 11-year-old girl was pulled off the street with a stun gun on her way to catch the school bus. She would not be seen again for 18 years.

Her name was Jaycee Lee Dugard. On June 10, 1991, she was walking to her bus stop in South Lake Tahoe, California when a car pulled up beside her. Her own stepfather watched it happen from a distance and could not reach her in time.

The man driving was Phillip Garrido, a convicted sex offender out on parole. His wife, Nancy, helped him carry out the kidnapping. For the next 18 years, Jaycee was kept hidden in a concealed backyard compound of tents and sheds behind their home, never allowed to attend school, never allowed to see a doctor, never allowed to exist in the eyes of the outside world.

Garrido raped her repeatedly. She gave birth to two daughters, one at 14 and one at 17.

For 18 years, search efforts went cold. Then in August 2009, Garrido brought his two "daughters" to a UC Berkeley campus office, asking permission to hold a religious event. Something about his behavior struck the campus police as wrong. They ran a background check and found his history. Within hours, an 11-year-old girl the world had given up on was found alive, now a 29-year-old woman with two daughters of her own.

Garrido was sentenced to 431 years to life in prison. Nancy received 36 years to life. Neither will ever walk free again.

During her captivity, the Garridos raised Jaycee's daughters to call Nancy "Mom" and to see Jaycee only as their older sister, never their mother. After her rescue, Jaycee finally reclaimed that role.

She has since written two memoirs about her story and founded the JAYC Foundation to support other families recovering from abduction, choosing to speak on her own terms after decades of having no voice at all.

Somebody I idolised growing up watching NFL. But out of respect ( like a scared little girl ) I didn’t even ask for a picture.

- Los 11 jugadores de otra selección no nacieron en su país
- Ninguna de esas selecciones es Francia, a la que todos acusan de no tener jugadores nacidos en su país, pero en realidad son 23 de 26 nacidos en territorio francés
- Los aficionados de una selección se inventaron amenazas del crimen organizado para justificar una derrota humillante
- Una selección tuvo que viajar de un país a otro ida y vuelta cada vez que jugaba, porque el país organizador lo invadió antes del torneo
- El mejor árbitro de un continente no pudo participar en el torneo porque el organizador no lo dejó entrar
- Un campeón del mundo no pasó un grupo con Arabia y Cabo Verde, otro fue eliminado por Paraguay, uno más ni siquiera calificó
- El entrenador de uno de esos países acusó a sus jugadores de no poder poner atención a una charla de 10 minutos
- Uno de los equipos importantes vio interrumpida su preparación por una balacera, un robo y un tornado

When I heard about Senator Graham’s death last night, the first thing I thought about was not all the things he said and did in service of Donald Trump. I thought of the time before Donald Trump when he was a brother to Senator John McCain.

A time when senators from different parties could fight about politics and still be friends. A time when a conservative Republican from South Carolina could say of my father: “If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you’ve got a problem. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in politics. As good a man as God ever created.”

That is the Senator Graham I will remember today. Not because I have forgotten what came after. Because in that memory there is hope. Hope for a country where brothers can fight like hell over policy and still share a meal, and a laugh, and the loss of the people they love.

I will choose to remember the time before Trump. Because I believe in an America after Trump.

Jour 147, orbite 2289 –  J’ai reçu tellement d’amour ❤️ de la part de mes proches, de mes amis, de mes coéquipiers et des équipes au sol pour mon anniversaire dimanche dernier… J’ai été très touchée également par tous vos gentils messages sur les réseaux sociaux : merci beaucoup.

Je peux affirmer avec une absolue certitude que je n’oublierai jamais le jour où j’ai bouclé ma 44ᵉ révolution autour du Soleil tout en tournant autour de la Terre ! 🌍☀️

Nos coéquipiers russes sont les maîtres pâtissiers 🎂 de la Station spatiale internationale, et le gâteau d’anniversaire – composé de biscuit au miel, de yaourt, de lait concentré sucré, de fruits rouges réhydratés et garni de pignons de pin – était absolument délicieux !
Nous ne pouvons pas allumer de vraies bougies d’anniversaire (pas de feu à bord ! 🔥), mais nous avons une lampe-torche décorée avec du ruban adhésif jaune en forme de flamme ! L’astuce, bien sûr, c’est d’éteindre la lampe au moment où l’on souffle dessus, pour faire semblant, haha ! Le système D, comme d’habitude !

Pas de magie à l’œuvre non plus dans Columbus, où les ordinateurs Astro Pi affichaient une bougie allumée 🕯 sur leurs écrans… Lorsque j’ai soufflé dessus, le capteur d’humidité a détecté mon souffle et le programme a affiché l’image d’une bougie éteinte ! Merci @ESA__Education !

Ces traditions ont rendu cette journée encore plus spéciale; je me suis sentie choyée comme à la maison alors que j’étais loin de chez moi et des miens. Il s’est passé une semaine depuis et je n’ai toujours pas les pieds sur Terre ! 😉

BREAKING: French Senator Claude Malhuret TORCHES Trump and his alcoholic, drug-addicted administration on the floor of the Luxembourg Palace: "Every time the Epstein affair resurfaces, bombs explode somewhere in the world and cause a distraction!"

This might be the greatest MAGA takedown of all time. Nobody was spared...

"A year ago, here in France, I compared Trump's presidency to Nero's Court. I was wrong. It's the miracle court. An anti-vaxxer, former heroin addict as Minister of Health," he said, referring to RFK Jr.

Malhuret's comparison to the mad Emperor Nero is fitting. It's said that he fiddled while Rome burned. In Trump's case, he's building a ballroom while the entire world goes up in flames.

"A climate-skeptic Minister of Economy. An alcoholic TV host, Minister of the Armed Forces," Malhuret continued, referring to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

"An old Qatar agent, Minister of Justice. A groupie of Putin, Minister of National Security," Malhuret went on, referring to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Bondi previously worked for the Ballard Partners firm which raked in $115,000 a month by lobbying on behalf of Qatar.

"A Turkish proverb says 'When a clown settles in a palace, he does not become king, it is the palace that becomes a circus," said Malhuret. "His fine team has decided to create a competitor to the UN. Since the creation of the Board of Peace, Trump has triggered more military strikes than Biden during his entire term."

"Every time the Epstein affair resurfaces, bombs explode somewhere in the world and cause a distraction," he continued. "Bomb more to win more."

This is how the world now sees the American president: as a pedophile desperately exploiting his role as commander-in-chief to obscure the fact that he preyed on children with his long-time pal Jeffrey Epstein.

"There isn't a single country where Trump did not take advantage of the situation to enrich himself without ever forgetting his family. A Boeing plane offered by Qatar," he said, referring to the $400 million jet that Qatar "gifted" to Trump. "Investment in all Gulf projects or elsewhere. Stock market manipulation that only a few insiders benefit from."

"Any one of these conflicts of interest would have caused an immediate procedure of impeachment here," Malhuret. "But we are not here. We are in MAGA's America where public business is conducted in favor of private interests."

Rarely have we heard such an exhaustive yet succinct distillation of the Trump administration's rampant criminality and incompetence. By focusing on individual Cabinet members and what makes them uniquely unfit for office and then expanding the aperture to the broader patterns of corruption and malignancy, Malhuret delivered a master class in political messaging.

Every mainstream outlet in the U.S. should be running this speech to show Americans what the world thinks of our leaders.
