A notable event in Gaza today:

A Palestinian militia backed by Israeli support raided Gaza City's Al-Katiba district, captured a senior Hamas Internal Security official, then covered its withdrawal with heavy airstrikes. The IDF said in a statement that it took Mu'in al-Arabid, head of Hamas's General Security apparatus since October 2023. However, a Hamas-linked source disputed the claim, saying only a lower-ranking officer was seized while the real target got away.

Notably, Israeli officials and news outlets said the raid was actually carried out by an Israeli-backed anti-Hamas Palestinian militia under IDF Southern Command, not Israeli troops, with the IDF limited to air cover.

Arabic news outlets reported the raiding force reportedly disguised itself using a bus and motorcycles before being detected and ambushed at close range.

Hamas's security media frames the whole operation as largely foiled, claiming it captured three alleged collaborators and inflicted casualties on the raiders. Hamas's Internal Security explicitly told Gazans and media not to amplify what it called "the occupation's narrative."
