🩺 The largest UK multicentre study of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) diagnostic routes shows just how much surveillance matters 👇

Key findings (723 patients, 14 UK centres):
🔍 Only 28% of HCC cases were diagnosed via surveillance
😮 48% presented symptomatically, 24% incidentally
📏 Surveillance-diagnosed tumours were smaller (3cm vs 6cm) & caught earlier (55% early-stage vs 26%)
⚰️ 365-day mortality: 20% (surveillance) vs 29% (incidental) vs 43% (symptomatic)
🧩 Failures span 3 stages: missed cirrhosis diagnosis → poor enrolment → suboptimal delivery

Fewer than 1 in 3 high-risk patients are being caught early — despite surveillance clearly saving lives 📉
