What is going on in this country?
Between the Garda whistleblowers, RTÉ reportedly being told to take down a video, and Helen McEntee being caught up in controversy yet again, serious questions need to be answered. How has Helen McEntee risen so far within Fine Gael? In my view, she is simply not capable enough for the position she holds, yet she continually seems to escape proper accountability.
Meanwhile, money is being sent to Ukraine as if it were confetti. Millions are going abroad, and taxpayers deserve a clear and transparent audit trail showing exactly where that money is going and how it is being spent.
At the same time, millions of taxpayers’ money are being spent on IPAS centres across Ireland. Yet ordinary taxpayers see no meaningful reduction in USC or PAYE. We are continually being asked to foot the bill for decisions made by government, while working people pay the price.
The level of alleged corruption and lack of accountability in this country is scandalous. The bigger issue, in my view, is that there is not enough truly independent scrutiny of the State and Government. Who properly audits the people making these decisions and ensures that every euro of public money is accounted for?
For far too long, Ireland has had a culture of “jobs for the boys and jobs for the girls” — keep the right people happy, say yes, and positions follow.
I believe taxpayers have every right to peacefully take to the streets and tell this Government that enough is enough. People work hard for their money and deserve transparency, accountability and value for every euro taken from them.
And An Garda Síochána needs to be examined from head to toe. The organisation needs serious scrutiny, accountability and reform. The public deserves nothing less.
H McEntee refuses to answer questions and lies continuously
She is nothing but a pen pusher who simply takes orders, and she is completely unfit to serve as a TD for anything
This is the Gardai what they are at #coverup

Have lost count of Gardai based at Store Street garda station who are either up before the courts on corruption charges (four of them at least), jailed for assault, file gone to DPP after Paul Butler death, suspended for being blind drunk behind the wheel (sergeant) or dismissed for stealing cannabis for a colleague's work locker (because the evidence locker wasn't available!)
About time a councillor raised this state of affairs.
@mickthehack@gardainfo Any word when your doing your podcast about the biggest dirty corruption scandle in the state by members of the Gardai in Dublin Central? Or have you still too much love for the Strafords who torchered people in the inner-city?
Nobody condones violence against Michael Healy-Rae or any public representative. What happened to him was completely unacceptable and should never have happened.
But the difference in the reaction cannot be ignored. Michael Healy-Rae has rightly received widespread condemnation and support from senior political figures and across the national media.
Yet when Councillor @MalachySteenson received a credible threat to his life, where was anything approaching the same national outcry?
This takes absolutely nothing away from what happened to Michael Healy-Rae. The question is simply why one public representative appears to receive a level of concern that another did not.
Violence and threats are wrong regardless of who the victim is or what their politics are.
@mickthehack@gardainfo Michael smoke screens Michael not a word out of you or that hack regarding the corruption the biggest case in the history of the State Bushed under the carpet yet again

The incident involving Michael Healy Rae is rather bizarre. No footage on an assault but lots of him being shielded by Gardai & escorted 2 a Garda Car & driven 2 Hospital
Try get a Garda 2 show up at an accident, you'll certainly not be chauffeur driven to a Hospital.
@SimonHarrisTD I agree with Simon, However, the same must apply for the Corrupt Gardai and Fiosrú’. Ill be looking forward to your statement after the Whistle-blower this evening
RTE 9.35pm 2night

Despite the ongoing energy crisis, Government taxes, levies and charges currently account for nearly half of the price of petrol at the pump as drivers await future relief measures in the upcoming Budget.
