@MZHemingway@jeremymbarr It would be best, Mollie, if when you don't know people, you research them rather than implying by your tone that you don't expect Bari Weiss to make good judgments. I know Roland Fryer's work, and you should, too. Do yourself a favor and look him up.
On Friday, June 6, join @rickhess99 and @nytimes veteran education reporter @DanaGoldstein for a fireside chat on what's next for education reform:

Finally starting the latest from my literacy oracles, @MJLiben and David Liben.
For starters, let me 👏👏👏 the fact that the cover this important topic in 150 pages, with lots of “Tips for…” boxes?
Litmus test for school board candidates (and superintendents) what did you think of @ehanford “Sold a Story” and “Hard Words?” If they’ve never heard of it, it’s disqualifying.
To improve literacy, many schools expanded the time that kids spend in language arts classes by cutting down on content-rich learning in subjects like science and history. Read more about why this may harm student’s reading comprehension.

Strong readers are not born—they are built over time, and those efforts start in preschool. Proud to join @li14751 and @classroomwonder in updating the curriculum review tool to include early childhood!
University presidents everywhere need to embrace this simple statement by Ben Sasse, President of the University of Florida:
"At the University of Florida, we have repeatedly, patiently explained two things to protesters: We will always defend your rights to free speech and free assembly—but if you cross the line on clearly prohibited activities, you will be thrown off campus and suspended. In Gainesville, that means a three-year prohibition from campus. That’s serious. We said it. We meant it. We enforced it. We wish we didn’t have to, but the students weighed the costs, made their decisions, and will own the consequences as adults. We’re a university, not a daycare. We don’t coddle emotions, we wrestle with ideas."

Misconception #3: The “5 pillars” (PA, phonics, fluency, vocab & comp) = SoR.
These ‘pillars’ were identified in the NRP report 23 years ago. Since then we know that oral lang and background knowledge play a HUGE role in reading proficiency. We should now call it the “Big 7.”
In Mrs. Evans’ 4th grade, students are deciding the theme and the most important message from the Loyalists, the Patriots, and the In-Betweens. Lots of great discussion on teams. @benfranklin_ncs@JuakitaBowens@WitWisdomELA
JICYMI: Our #KnowledgeMatters School Tour is making its way through @MdPublicSchools!
We loved what these district leaders had to say about their switch to knowledge-building @Amplify ELA curriculum!
🖐️ High 5, Emily. You are a giant slayer and you deserve every accolade! Moving the publishing market is HUGE. It was a key lever in improving Reading instruction. New publishers will know better and do better. Thank you.👏🏼
