1/ Thread...A few thoughts on Player Development and what we have done at College of Central Florida. The term "Player Development" is sometimes taken for granted and just shrugged off as "coach speak" without the meaning of what exactly you are doing when it comes to PD...

🚨 Practice: I/O 4 Number Game
• Coach calls out a combination of numbers 1-4.
• Fielders have to throw to each base in the sequence as fast as they can.
⭐️ Throws from the outfield should be firm & on a line. “One hop or no hop.”
It’s surprising how often we see LD DP’s on balls hit low & in the infield. The cue should be “ GO BACK ON LINE DRIVES.” NOT “freeze.” You need to do more than talk it. You need to rep it periodically throughout the season at game speed during BP. You don’t get enough reps during games to develop &/or maintain the automaticity of response. Unfortunately on field BP is becoming less & less of a thing. A very high % of MLB hitters choose to hit inside in the cages.( T’s/Front toss/Live/ Machine/Trajekt) This should not be an issue at the amateur level.
