Gunner Frederick Pursall - died in N. Africa, aged 29. From a young age his ambition was to join the army and enrolled in 1939. Poignantly he wrote to his parents before he died & on his birthday “perhaps I shall be home to celebrate my next one”. He died 3 weeks later. #VEDay75

Today we celebrate 75 years since #VEDay. We will be sharing some stories about people who were there at the time throughout the day. Feel free to share any of your stories in the replies! #VEDay75

First up we have Ted. A Sapper in the Royal Engineers who served in Belgium around the time of #VEDay and in Germany afterwards. Apart from his time in Europe he spent his life in the Fens and was a keen gardener #VEDay75

This is Pilot II 572797 Roy Lightwood-Webber. At the time of #VEDay he was a pilot F/S with RAF Coastal Command. He enlisted in 1937 and served in Malta, before being selected for pilot training. He was sadly killed in an accident in June 1947. #VEDay75
