In May 1939, the Irish national football team travelled to Bremen for a match against the German national team.

In order to “honour the hosts,” the Irish players stood before kick-off and gave the Nazi salute as the German anthem “Deutschland über alles,” was played.

During World War II, the Irish conscience disappeared, and Ireland chose to maintain “neutrality” between good and evil.

In 1945, when the world already knew full well what had happened, Irish Prime Minister Éamon de Valera saw fit to visit the German representative in Ireland to offer his condolences on Hitler’s death.

And today — another football match. This time against the Israeli national team. Once again, the famous Irish conscience makes an appearance and takes to the pitch.

Almost 90 years have passed. Ireland’s unique talent for finding itself on the wrong side of history remains intact.

Back then, they gave the Nazi salute. This time, they stand on the side of Palestinian terrorism. Above the black armbands the Irish players will wear tonight flies the black flag of jihadism.

Good luck to the Israeli national team tonight. 🇮🇱

On peut ne pas aimer Netanyahou. On peut le trouver trop long, trop théâtral, trop politique. Mais ce qu’il a fait ce soir à l’ONU, ça s’appelle du cran.
Il est monté à la tribune alors qu’une partie de la salle se levait pour partir. Pas pour débattre. Pour ne pas écouter. Il les a regardés partir et a dit ce que beaucoup pensent tout bas : si la vérité vous dérange à ce point, sortez. Ce n’est pas de la diplomatie. C’est du caractère.
Pendant trois ans, une partie de cette Assemblée a parlé de Gaza comme si le 7 octobre 2023 n’avait jamais existé. Comme si 1 200 civils n’avaient pas été massacrés. Comme si des otages n’avaient pas été emmenés. Comme si le Hamas n’avait pas filmé ses propres crimes. Netanyahou a rappelé l’essentiel : on ne peut pas juger une guerre en oubliant comment elle a commencé.
Il a aussi remis les pendules à l’heure avec la France et le Royaume-Uni. Entendre Paris et Londres accuser le « colonialisme » d’Israéliens qui habitent la terre de leurs ancêtres, alors que ces deux pays ont longtemps tenu des empires sur plusieurs continents, c’est une leçon d’histoire qu’ils n’avaient pas envie d’entendre. Il la leur a servie quand même.
Même chose pour ceux qui viennent donner des leçons de démocratie depuis Damas ou Ankara. Un dirigeant syrien et Erdogan n’ont pas le crédit moral pour faire la morale à Israël sur la liberté, le droit ou la souveraineté. Les rappeler à ce qu’ils sont, ce n’est pas de la provocation. C’est de la cohérence.
On peut détester Bibi. On peut contester sa stratégie, sa durée au pouvoir, sa manière. Mais face à une salle qui refuse de regarder le 7 octobre en face, il n’a pas baissé la voix. Il a parlé. Ça, au moins, ça s’appelle des cojones.

Ich versteh´s nicht. Österreich hat seit 2015 knapp eine halbe Million Asylforderer importiert. Unter anderem, um den Fachkräftemangel zu beheben und das Pensionssystem zu sichern, hiess es.

Jetzt sollen die Österreicher länger arbeiten, um den Fachkräftemangel zu beheben und das Pensionssystem zu sichern? Und die Wohnungen und Sozialgelder für die Asylforderer zu finanzieren, nehm ich an.

Mein Vorschlag: die Asylforderer gehen samt und sonders wieder nach Hause, alle Zahlungen an sie werden eingestellt. Und die für das Öffnen der Grenzen verantwortlichen Politiker kommen vor Gericht.

I listened very carefully to the speech of President Erdogan yesterday: references to International Law, to the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, to illegal occupation, to the drama of refugees. Yet, in relation to Cyprus, Turkey is doing exactly the opposite. Hypocrisy of the highest form.

President Erdogan also quoted extensively from the UN Charter. But politicians are judged not by their words but by their deeds.

Mr. Erdogan, if you want to quote from the Charter, you must first apply it.

I remain fully committed to achieving a comprehensive settlement.

I am ready to resume negotiations from where they were left off in 2017, building on the substantial work already achieved, within the agreed United Nations framework.
The common ground is there: the relevant Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, International Law, and the laws, values, and principles of the European Union.
