However, if you look closely at the upper spiral arm of the galaxy at the bottom of the frame, you can spot a distinctive knot that differs in color from its surroundings. Redshift analysis has revealed that it is not part of that galaxy but a separate entity. In all likelihood, this is a third galaxy also involved in the collision; it is simply hidden from our view due to its position relative to Earth.
