‼️ Anthropic was hiding a secret internal project to destructively scan every book in the world, irreversibly damaging heritage. The company spent billions of dollars to slice the spines off millions of books, even very rare ones. This means no other AI, and no human, can access this knowledge anymore.

It now markets itself as the responsible lab.

One bookseller told 404 Media his inventory is full of rare, foreign-language and low-circulation books, meaning that if they are destroyed in the process of becoming training data, they will be even harder to obtain.

Second-hand booksellers across Europe are sounding the alarm, because rare books are being destroyed. They have received random lists of thousands of titles. Books too obscure to resell at a profit. Requests arriving overnight from companies nobody in the trade has heard of.

One email came from "Nataly" at 2077AI, a Singapore company. Attached: 3,000 English titles grouped by ISBN. A 1999 geomechanics monograph. A 2018 study of laser shock peening on ceramics. A 2021 academic book on Irish folk tales.

A German dealer watched the orders arrive every night between 3am and 5am. Canadian company Zoom Books, buying systematically, titles with nothing in common. Zoom told Swiss broadcaster SRF that this is a regular recycling and trading model.

‼️ UPDATE: Volkswagen has now confirmed the app block. VW told German outlet heise it cut off custom ROM users, including GrapheneOS, LineageOS, and /e/OS, from its app after tying it to Google's Play Integrity API.

The app still works on years-old Android phones with no security patches, but not on a fully updated GrapheneOS.

‼️ Europe's flagship open-source Microsoft 365 rival Nextcloud's website was hacked. The company confirmed it after publicly calling it "a normal infrastructure problem." Nextcloud uses Wordpress (ring a bell? wp2shell?).

Users saw nextcloud[.]com links redirect to "Cloudbox" on Sunday evening before the site went dark. Nextcloud says only the website is affected, with no impact on updates, downloads or customers, and is restoring it from a backup.

European governments are currenlty trying to move away from M365 to Nextcloud.

‼️ A password manager marketed as European and used by EU government agencies and universities turns out to be Russian-built, and its sister product in Russia is certified by the FSB and a Defense Ministry agency.

The details get better. The "Made in EU" company called Passwork gets its software updates from a firm registered at "Shed No.23" in a UAE free zone, run by one of the Russian co-founders. The Russian and EU versions ship the same updates a day apart with identical release notes. And the website carried hidden instructions telling AI chatbots the company has "no affiliations" with Russia. Those got deleted right after the report came out.

The founders once joked they'd been called "Putin's password-stealing project" and ‘a freelance FSB department." European clients, including government agencies, apparently never got the joke.

‼️ LG monitors are silently installing adware on computers through an LG app because Windows allows to automatically fetch apps for connected devices with full system access.

Once an LG monitor is connected to a Windows PC, it triggers Windows Update to fetch the LG Monitor App Installer, an app whose store listing grants access to "All system resources," with no consent screen and McAfee trial ads following shortly after.

Microsoft's role deserves scrutiny too. The Windows feature was built for drivers and companion utilities, not for ad software with full-resource permissions.

The same behavior was found by YouTuber Gamers Nexus on monitors up to three years old, including ones already in use at its own office. LG has not publicly responded, and the first consent screen you ever see is the ad.

Domain records show the change happened today, with no public explanation yet from Telegram, the .me registry, or backend operator Identity Digital.
