@Yoga_Queen01 This has to do with your temperament... Especially sanguine and phlegmatic natured people... They are quickly out of sight out of mind natured... Overtime you will find one or two people you crave and miss.
@ijeomanwa@emmyrino1@tier_1st Now they are unnecessary signings, the list you mentioned, how many of them played in the conference league?... Always calm down and objectively think baba
There was a time when if a man assaulted a woman, such as rape, she was given a choice-
demand his execution or marry him without dowry. Marriage was thought to 'restore her honor' and make her marriageable again.
At the same time, a man could divorce his wife casually for drunkenness, infertility, or adultery. She was gone, just like that.
Yet his own adultery was not a crime. Her's was.
This legal imbalance rested on a cultural idea known as infirmitas consilii, which meant weakness of judgment.
Women were thought incapable of sound reasoning. They lived under lifelong male guardianship: first under their father, then their husband.
If widowed, they returned to male authority. If remarried, they forfeited their property to the new husband.
Their voices carried no weight in court. Their witness was void.
They could not vote, hold office, or freely participate in public life.
The pater familias, the male head of the household, held absolute power, even deciding whether to keep or kill a newborn, especially if it was female.
This was not the edge of civilization. It was the very heart of the ancient world.
This was the Roman Empire, the society in which Paul and the apostles planted the first churches.
Into that world, Christianity erupted with teachings that sounded like an earthquake.
When Paul declared,
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
he shattered centuries of unjust hierarchy and established men and women are equal before God.
This was an earth-shattering idea in that world.
When Jesus said divorce was only allowed for immorality (Matthew 19:9), He struck at men’s unchecked power to discard wives at will.
When Paul wrote,
“... The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.” (1 Corinthians 7:3–4)
it was a shockwave. For the first time, men were told their bodies belonged equally to their wives. They also had not just rights but now responsibilities.
When Paul said women could pray and prophesy in church (1 Corinthians 11:5), he legitimized their voices in the gathered assembly.
When he commanded husbands to “love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25), he required sacrificial love from men who were used to dominance.
When Paul named women leaders such as Junia the apostle, Phoebe the deacon, Priscilla who taught Apollos, and Euodia and Syntyche as co-laborers, it openly challenged the system of Roman patriarchy.
And above all, when God chose women to be the first witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus, He abolished the cultural and legal barrier that disqualified women from serving as witnesses.
In a world where their testimony was inadmissible, the risen Christ entrusted them with the greatest testimony of all.
Christianity gave women their first true liberation. Indeed, when the Empire later embraced Christianity, even the exposure and killing of unwanted infant girls was outlawed.
Your faith did that. The freedom of women of unjust subjugation was championed and introduced to the civilized world by your Christian faith through the bible.
And yet, Christianity accomplished this without tearing down men, denying their leadership in the home, or erasing the beauty of motherhood, childbearing, and the God-given differences between men and women.
We offer this reflection with respect to all Christians, especially sisters tempted to look for liberation in secular equality ideologies. Your freedom from patriarchy is divinelywritten and preserved into your faith and your Bible.
Your God and Lord has your comfort there. Please, find all your need for equality through its lenses. May the God of peace and joy be with you.
Amen
