Founders understand incentives, payroll, risk, regulation, customers and capital in ways textbooks sometimes miss.

Economists understand monetary policy, trade, labour markets and macroeconomic systems that one company’s experience can’t teach.

sounds stupid at the individual level but completely rational at scale.

A company with 20,000 employees can’t casually add $15k to everyone’s salary. That’s $300 million a year, every year.

Sometimes replacing the handful who leave is dramatically cheaper.

The real lesson for employees is simpler: don’t wait for a raise. Make yourself valuable, document it, ask for more, and be willing to leave if the market values you higher.
