@Jaeger350@Blackmoor_Film True, Gary and Dave created a wonderful thing but they were definitely creatives and not money men. Gygax in particular should have had the humility/sense to get help in areas where he didn't have the necessary expertise- probably the fundamental reason TSR went the way it did
@0ldSch00l13 It could also be an uncomfortable truth that more people play D&D now than ever before.
Corporations are money grabbing faceless entities only out for their shareholders - who knew?(This said on a thread on X) #gamersgonnagame
@threelinestudio "Peterson is a historical hack and a fraud" - strong words on the internet, you do realise you have recourse to litigation if you want to properly deal with any of your issues? Otherwise this is just sounding off into an echo chamber @threelinestudio
@Blackmoor_Film@YoDanno "When your only goal is to leverage cash flow and profit, it is quite possible that you will lose track of what gamers want." what kind of company would ever do that?(cough, TSR).
Seriously though, why is anyone surprised. Play the games you like the way you like and move on.
5/3!
Imagine if WotC made a habit of the following (hint, it maybe does) - mass lay-offs, mismanagement of their major brand, principle staff that REALLY liked money and made that clear to "lesser" employees, a litigious corporate stance & blamed others for it's own failings #TSR
BUT (again to put my head above the parapet), its okay not to like a company/product/idea/rebrand, but choosing to ignore things that don't fit your narrative is not ok.
(Sorry this was 4/3 - 5/3 incoming)
3/3 BUT these were different times etc and I read the disclaimer and my thought was " ok, fair enough, let's all move on". The creators weren't and aren't saints but their creativity and imagination was the beginning of a long road.
2/3 however most of the online talk is about the warning in the intro and how evil WotC/Hasbro are and that they have killed our game and insulted it's founders. Much lauding of how great the early days were and how saintly the pioneers and their business were #osr#TSR
1/3 Got my copy of the new Making of Dungeons and Dragons 70-78 book and I genuinely love it, as I love all of these neato history books. It's physically a thing of beauty that could easily be used to stun an owl bear of one were attacking you BUT... #WotC#DnD#osr
@Wizards_DnD I love all of these "history" books and documentaries - one man's hard facts are another man's plagiarism!
Just kidding (a bit) but the whole truth of this will never be in one place - I say this and have NO axe to grind so imagine the opinions of those who do @Blackmoor_Film

@DailyDwarf @theGROGNARDfile Nah, I've had a few over the years( and even had them on a disc when they were briefly released) but they don't hold much resonance for me. (Also blimey are they eyewateringly expensive now 🙄)
