@xirsigdsn Hahah fair! But the essential position is (or was) also held - more or less - by alot of left academics. Tooze, Weber, Milanovic, Stephen Cohen, Peter Nolan have all used the NEP in some sense to understand China and it’s seen across parts of the left more sympathetic to Deng etc
Wrote something about China and how Bolshevik Nikolai Bukharin’s writings can help us understand its economic system.

Bukharin's theorization of socialist transition and the Bolsheviks' New Economic Policy are often invoked to defend the People's Republic of China's modern economic policies. In part one of a two-part series, Gabriel Salter (@gps0597) takes a closer look at what Bukharin actually had to say and how his vision compares with China's reality.

Wrote about the short-lived attempt to found Soviets in Britain in 1917 and potential lessons from the experience for the British left as it aims to found a new socialist party today.
Are there any lessons from the 1917 Leeds Convention? Gabriel Salter argues it can guide the debates around new left parties in the present.

He sits in a park named after Emperor Augustus on a road dedicated to Friedrich Krupp, the German magnate whose company provided the weapons which drove the German war machine in both World Wars. Monarchical past, capitalist present and communist future are all represented here.
The monument was commissioned in the 60s by the Soviet embassy in Rome. It looks down on a (beautiful) bay filled with the yachts of the super rich. The kindly Vladimir Ilyich would have shot everybody here.
By all accounts Lenin largely refused to discuss socialism or his differences with the Vperedists whilst on the island - the pretext for his visit. Instead he spent his time eating pasta, fishing, drinking and playing (and losing) chess with Gorky and Bogdanov. Very real.
Went to the Lenin monument in Capri. He came to the island twice prior to the Russian revolution in 1908 and 1910 to visit the Capri party school of the Vperedist faction of the RSDLP - including Maxim Gorky, Alex Bogdanov and Anatoly Lunacharsky - and generally have fun.
Lenin and his factions disagreement with the Vperedists would lead to the expulsion of the latter from the party and Lenin’s founding of a rival party school at Longjumeau in 1911.
The Vperedists had developed the party school in Capri to train party cadres and promote ‘proletarian culture’ as they saw it. Gorky provided much of the funds and the use of his villa as accommodation.
The Vperedists were members of the Bolshevik faction but split from the mainstream over a number of tactical and ideological differences. These included their emphasis on underground activity in Tsarist Russia and the importance of intellectuals in the Socialist party.
It's wild how many of you think equal rights for Palestinians should be dependent on them having "appropriate" and "reasonable" thoughts towards the people who overwhelmingly don't care if they live or die (at minimum).

Left-wing politicians trying to both-sides this: You are spineless cowards. When Israel has soon butchered and ethnically cleansed an area with 1.1 million Palestinians, we will say ‘we told you so’ and you will make excuses. But history will judge you and we will always remember
All people of conscience will be horrified by the order issued by the Israeli Government for 1.1 million people in the North of Gaza to immediately leave their homes and move South within 24 hours.
Palestinians are rightly fearing another Nakba of mass ethnic cleansing. (1/10)
