Yrs ago, when I was doing stories on the emerging risks of statin drugs, the drug companies wouldn't do interviews but lobbied me by sending me letters to the editor in local papers around the US that were supposedly written by disinterested doctors saying how GREAT statins are!

I wondered why so many doctors wouldn't be more circumspect about the documented risks.

I did a little research and every single one of the doctors who'd written local letters to the editor were getting payments from the statin makers. None of them had disclosed this.

One more addendum to the information about Letters to the Editor to national publications: they frequently start with an idea at a PR firm. The PR firm conceives of the letter on behalf of a client and then they hold meetings on "who we can get to 'write' or sign it."

Imagine being abandoned by your biological parents, then, decades later, in your 30s, going online to publicly shame the white parents who adopted you, protected you, loved you, and raised you to the best of their ability, while condemning them for the unforgivable sin of being “color-blind.”

They didn’t raise you as a “biracial child.” They raised you as their child.

And somehow, after receiving their love and protection for decades, you decide to recast their colorblindness as a personal failure and accuse them of racism, blaming them for not teaching you to see yourself primarily through the lens of race.

At some point, this stops being about your childhood and becomes about the identity you have chosen to embrace as an adult. Turning the people who stepped up, loved you, and raised you into villains because they refused to reduce you to the color of your skin is not accountability. It is a profound distortion of the very people who gave you the family you otherwise might never have had.

This is Bonnie Pierce, a 38-year-old mother of three from St. Paul, Minnesota. Her house caught fire. She and two of her children escaped, then realized her toddler was still inside.
Bonnie went back in, found the child, but could not get out. She shielded the child with her body. She died from her burns. The child survived.
A GoFundMe for her family raised about $42,000.
By comparison, more than $1,000,000 was raised on GoFundMe for Lindsay Clancy, who was charged with killing her children.
It is a sad reflection of the society we have become.

The Space Launch System costs $4.1 billion per launch. One launch.

NASA's own inspector general confirmed that number. Boeing builds the core stage. Northrop Grumman builds the solid rocket boosters. Aerojet Rocketdyne supplies the engines. Every one of those contracts flows to congressional districts where senators sit on the appropriations committees that fund NASA. Coincidence?

Congress mandated the SLS in 2010 because the cancellation of the Constellation program threatened to idle the same workforce and facilities that had built the Space Shuttle. Senators Richard Shelby and Bill Nelson wrote the requirement directly into the authorization bill. They protected Alabama and Florida jobs. The politics drove the rocket, not engineering logic.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy lifts comparable payload for roughly $90 million. The SLS costs forty-five times more per flight. That gap destroys you as a taxpayer; you fund the difference without consent and without choice. No competitive bid. No market test. Boeing received cost-plus contracts, meaning every overrun simply became next year's invoice to the Treasury.

Ludwig von Mises identified the central problem: when bureaucracies spend other people's money on other people's projects, waste is the predictable outcome, not the aberration. Congress spent $23 billion developing the SLS before its first launch in November 2022. It launched twice total by mid-2026, with the third mission schedule slipping repeatedly.

The SLS is a constituency management program wearing a rocket as a costume.

I have a daughter the same age as this girl.

University gave her exactly what I tried to protect her from... arrogance and zero critical thinking.

Like so many young women, she chased belonging and let the indoctrination take hold. For now.
