Some of us have been out of school for a while and may have forgotten our American history.
Protesting injustice and expressing our opinions is part of our American tradition and what makes this, in fact, a free country. That’s what the Constitution is all about.
PLEASE read this. For those of us doing climate research, politically there is so much to digest and infinite concern about what to do next. Hank does an excellent job explaining the current situation and how we got to the graph Hillary tweeted out about climate policy
Can we...just accept that we suck at this?
I want to tell you a story that has made me kinda hopeless about Twitter's ability to affect positive things happening, and it starts with this tweet from Hillary Clinton.

Like yes I’m graduating…but nothing about this is ever how I expected it to be when I first started and it really does feel like a loss sometimes when I watch it work out really well for other people
As I’m coming to an end of my time in grad school I’m finding it sooooo hard not to feel bitter about how messed up my career trajectory was during my time there and how I just get to sit here and watch people in my cohort and the cohorts under me passing their thesis/QAs 🫥
claimed to be an Uber driver (although I didn’t see any evidence of that) and offered to give me his number 🙄 Please stay aware, sometimes a no is ignored!!
Las Vegas friends (especially my women presenting friends!) just had a black man with dreads in a white SUV with California plates catcall me and try to follow me in the spring valley area at the chevron on the trop/rainbow intersection. He wanted to “give me a ride” +
@JamesMHyman Thank you James!!! I have so much respect for you and academics like you that support students and meet them where they’re at. I loved your class for that reason! I’ll keep in touch, I always look out for your labs new papers, and I’m always excited to see my peers succeed 🫶🏻
Hey yall. Serious post here 👋🏻 After literal years of suffering extreme depression and anxiety directly stemming from the progression of my master’s thesis, I withdrew from the PBS program and let it all go. While it’s definitely a loss, given that it was 3 years of work, I know-
meant to be. And I refuse to say I am giving up, because that makes me feel like it was all on me. I’m making an active decision based on feedback I’ve received that academia doesn’t work for me and who I am. Time to reassess and move forward in another direction :)
getting to the finish line would never be possible for me, because I felt so misunderstood and unsupported. If you look around you, in your grad classes, check on the people next to you. I felt so powerless in my situation and felt like I tried everything to make it work, and
the people I worked for/with, and the administrative systems in place, were not able to help my situation. Unfortunately, maybe it was always meant to be this way! If original research and a rigorous academic path isn’t a friendly space for me to thrive in my passions, it isn’t-
stress, anxiety, and depression that made it hard for me to be the student I have always known myself to be. I faced watching faculty give up on me, string me along, and I even felt like I was being pushed out as a result of my mental health struggles. Eventually, I realized that
for me than for other students. I also entered my program in 2020, during the pandemic, and have changed significantly regarding my career goals and aspirations as a direct result of how my program went. The process of getting a Master’s degree, for me, involved significant-
that this choice is the right one for me. Graduate students with mental illnesses, and other disabilities, struggle the most when fighting against a system that is not built for them. The expectations and time frame laid out by my department and advisor were more challenging
