Grace Street from the University of Sydney Student Representative Council: many international students at the university think that protest is totally forbidden, and university management does nothing to disabuse them.
We have now finalised the program for the hybrid 'Free Palestine, Free Speech' symposium at USyd next Thursday, June 4, on the restriction of political freedoms in universities. Speaker details and registration at https://t.co/ZUDVGP3JoV.
Solidarity to everyone shoved, punched, arrested, manhandled and obstructed by the cops at the Herzog rally tonight. This is the frightening authoritarian turn the ALP has shepherded our society into. Minns, Albo, on you and every one of your supporters.
Within this (huge) bloc is a motion about designating the NUS as an Apartheid-Free Zone and strengthening provisions around gifts, donations, and trips to Israel for NX members. Super proud of the work by many over years to get this to be a mainstream position ✊ #nusnatcon25
Who now takes to the floor to speak against the motion. Condemning @honi_soit.
"I condemn Angus Fisher" - USyd SRC President Grace Street.
Goes to a vote and passes, with NSWLS opposing. #nusnatcon25
Hard to overstate how important this is: we've been told that USyd is an antisemitism hub, and Palestine supporters are the reason. That's been widely contested, incl. by Jewish people. Now, it turns out that the uni itself has *no evidence* of it, despite Zionist complaints.
Grace Street speaks about problems at USyd, including the uni gentrifying areas like Redfern, pushing out communities, contributing to the systemic killing of First Nations people (not implementing deaths in custody recs). She reaffirms her election promises. #srcrepselect25
