Great questions @PauletteHamilto MP on school libraries https://t.co/JJ3uaZWtbf & reading https://t.co/BsTf7iAMGx. Gathering basic data about school librarians, researching their impact, and sharing good practice would help reading and much more @GreatSchLibs
Thank you @CILIPSLG for supporting this event - 150+ colleagues from around the world & steadily counting - which will be recorded for registered participants. Brief contextual details of the inspirational & aspirational presenters can be found here <https://t.co/rqfiUZQyMk>.

Our campaign committee member @Leiahillman hosted @tomrutland in the wonderful school library at Swiss Gardens Primary School in West Sussex today to tell him about the #GreatSchoolLibraries campaign and to find out more about the #schoollibrary provision in his constituency. 📚
This has been reshared a lot recently. Many #schoollibrarians are sharing stats which show that reading in their schools is not in decline-quite the reverse. The evidence is clear: having a librarian in school can build and embed a reading culture. Follow us to find out more.
⚠️Reading enjoyment has fallen across all ages.⚠️
The sharpest decline is among pupils aged 11-14 - from 40.4% in 2023 to 30.7% in 2024. As children transition to secondary school, their reading engagement dips - a trend that is worsening.

1/ This year my school library has loaned more books than ever before. I’ve spent 2 years building up a collection of books that the kids actually want to read - comedy, romance & crime are our most popular genres, comics the most popular medium. Years 7, 8 & 9
We are delighted that @frankcottrell_b is the new #childrenslaureate. His passion and determination to address inequality builds on the brilliant work of @JosephACoelho. Our campaign to ensure that ALL children have access to a school library staffed by a librarian continues…!
#GreatSchoolLibraries have the power to transform the futures of our young people.
And this quote from @iapsuk CEO, Dominic Norrish, captures that transformative power perfectly. 👏🏼💜
#ThursdayThoughts
We love seeing heads of educational institutions deem access to books as "essential". 👏🏼
These #TuesdayThoughts from @Edgehill Vice Chancellor, Dr John Cater, stress the opportunities that books can unlock.
Libraries provide this access, which is why they're so important. 💜
