I'll continue to die on the hill of "magic directives are bad API interfaces". They're not type-safe, they're not extensible, no native runtime control, they're just strings.
... I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would rather debate @ directives. Pls rewind history.
Got to admit: Microsoft absolutely nailed its developer agent positioning.
Other startups: "we built an AI Engineer" - suggesting to leadership that it will replace developers (and thus worth paying $$$ for)
Microsoft: "a peer programmer" - suggesting it needs devs (it does!)
I think we've become accustomed to seeing back-to-back announcements by major AI players: Google launches X, OpenAI announces Y. But where's Apple?
You have to wonder how they can be so far behind with all the resources they have.

How is this website so fast?
I take a look behind McMaster-Carr and detail all the techniques they are using to make it fast.
They are doing it all — prefetching HTML, inlined CSS, fixed images, pushstate — and all on a stack with 15 year old tech.

Our friends at @krakenfx just published an article on their migration to the New #ReactNative Architecture.
They are early adopters, so they faced several challenges, but thanks to them we solved those issues for everyone else!
Enjoy the article!

After working on improving CI system for the last two years at @figma, I just want to say how interesting and challenging the scope of the work is, and how often it's overlooked by a lot of engineers because it feels "back-office"-y.
The question is: what happens when money stops flowing or misalignments appear between the business & the open source project? You better wish the community is big enough & organized to self-support itself.

Building APIs is hard. I just spent 30mins trying to understand why Google AI SDK could not parse a JSON API response: the server it was running on had its IP blacklisted, causing Google API to return dummy "Unauthorized" HTML pages instead of a proper JSON response 🥲
