The end of my summer garden. Planting my cabbage, broccoli, more chard seedlings and my garlic soon. I planted four types of green beans, and I'm so glad that I did. The only ones that we actually liked- jade beans. Crunchy, not fuzzy, and huge!
@danakabradpitt Mine aren't as drastic as yours, but we had super hot dry weather for weeks on end, followed by pouring rain for days. I think the plants are just struggling, unsure how to adapt. I've had to water some of my plants every day, others every two days, and some once a week.
Pulled the last of my squash plants because I was finished dealing with squash bugs/vine borers every single day, and now my garden is drama free and pest free. The peppers are crazy. I need another tray to hold the amount ready to harvest.
It has been revealed that the City of Asheville, NC, will reportedly rebuild only 8 houses using the $225 million grant it received from the Trump administration following Hurricane Helene.
That's correct…..Eight.…out of 11,488 damaged homes.
The city allocated only $3 million for home repairs.
Meanwhile, $14.9 million was allocated for “administration.”
That means nearly five times more was allocated for administration than for repairing homes for people affected by the disaster.
And that's not the worst of it….
More than 100 approved families are reportedly currently on a waitlist for assistance that they may never receive.
After receiving the $225 million federal grant, Asheville residents deserve answers about exactly where the money is going — and how much is actually reaching families whose homes were damaged or destroyed. @asheville@AvlWatchdog H/T Deep Leaks
Still canning bits from the garden. Pickled peppers: roasted kalugeritsa, roasted zulu, and lemon drop. All seeds from @rareseeds Highly recommend all three.
My third planting of lemon cucumbers is winding down while my sugar baby watermelon is on round two. Magnolia sugar snap peas have sprouted, and my celeste fig. Cleaning up the beds that will have three pounds of seed garlic planted in them soon. #garden
I lost eight Patty pan squash plants to vine borers. Planted three more, just hoping one of them would survive. Look at this. A huge part of gardening is trying over and over and over until it works.
You want to know what actual free speech looks like in the American context?
Edward Snowden told the truth about what the government was doing to its own citizens.
He is in exile.
Chelsea Manning told the truth about what the military was doing in Iraq, including footage of a helicopter crew killing journalists and laughing.
She was imprisoned.
Julian Assange published documents showing the gap between what Western governments said and what they did.
He spent years in an embassy and then a prison, and the country that lectures the world about press freedom led the effort to destroy him.
Meanwhile the people who lied about weapons of mass destruction and launched a war that killed hundreds of thousands:
They are on the speaking circuit.
They are on television as analysts.
They have libraries named after them.
This is not a paradox. This is the system working correctly.
Free speech, in the empire's operating definition, means you can say anything that doesn't threaten the machine.
The moment the speech has real consequences for real power:
You discover exactly how free it is.
