We might be trainee Public Health consultants, but we can’t wait until we’re qualified for climate action. Tweets by SpRs Alice Munro and May Van Schalkwyk.
Our inaugural tweet! Pledges made at a Registrar Academic Day in the West Midlands to reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainability in our personal and professional lives.

Delighted to have had our abstract accepted! Looking forward to demonstrating some of the tools from @WorldClimate to a health audience at the @SustainSHSUoB conference 2020, with @MajelMcG.
Good stuff. But imagine one where the dominant economic, social and environmental causes of population health are fully reflected in govt knowledge, decision-making, funding and communication with the public. We are still imagining.
‘Twas the night before Brexit
When all through the state
Some people were worried
Concerned for their fate
Claims had been made without enough care
In the belief that EU membership was grossly unfair
Loss of feed in tariff for renewables, lack of capital investment for energy efficiency, sale of NHS car parks, under funded public transport - some of the transformative changes needed require subsidies and support, warm words are not enough @NHSI@SusHealthcare .
Without raining on what is such a positive parade, but where will the money come from for this. Our work has shown most #sustainability leads cant get funding for projects to deliver #carbon reductions, so how will this change it or is it just a nod to say, we get you!
@SusHealthcare have so many case studies ready to go to get the NHS to net zero - time to scale up and tackle some of the barriers to adoption @NHSEngland
RT @Redathon: @SusHealthcare@NHSEngland Great resource! I hope organisations adopt these examples of best practice to make rapid improvement rather than wasting time & resource in setting up from scratch.
The Citizens Assembly on climate change may not have the influence people hoped for, but they will be a well informed cross-section of people whose views will tell us what's possible when the science, and solutions, are communicated clearly and honestly.
First exposure to the Climate Assembly UK here in Birmingham - it was addressing science and impacts this morning, this afternoon looking more at the ethics. Fascinating process! #ClimateAssemblyUK
Errr, am I missing something, or has the Government FULL-ON nicked Labour's 'Green Industrial Revolution' framing? 👇 (See Weds next week.) Smart move if so - and tbh, really good to see climate + economy getting a bit of air-time next week. 👌
Climate change will significantly impact public health and we have an important role to play in highlighting the health impact.
We have adopted a new Climate Policy to ensure that our public advocacy is consistent with our own investments.

For anyone thinking this is crazy, the socioeconomic cost of driving one urban mile is 9p, cycling and walking have a BENEFIT of 15p and 32p respectively. Our way of accounting fails to recognise this. We need people to use alternatives to private cars. It's literally killing us.
