Q. If my circumstances are exactly the same as Dominic Cummings and I get a call from the Government saying that tract and trace says I need to self isolate for 14 days, can I drive 260 miles to do this.
No follow up Q today, nor did the PM allow Vallence or Whitty to answer question about whether they were worried about example being set by Cummings' behaviour
Boris Johnson should have drawn a line under the Dominic Cummings saga but was too weak to act.
The public have sacrificed so much for the health of our nation - which he's now undermined.
And sent a message that there's one rule for them and another for the British people.
Everyone defending Cummings would be baying for blood if Labour had won the election, Corbyn was PM in this crisis, & Seamus Milne had been caught breaking the lockdown.
UK politics is now as tribal as US - facts don't matter, only blind allegiance to the tribe. It's tragic.
If PM hoped press conference would calm things down ... a couple of govt scientific advisers publicly saying it’s undermined their work and more Tory MPs coming out ... 👇🏼
Conservative MP texts: 'My inbox is overloaded with furious constituents. Good, decent everyday folks. I think seeing any British PM treat the nation's grandparents like they are idiots was a very uncomfortable thing. It was excruciating'
DC’s resignation/sacking followed by sincere contrition would have enabled the PM to regain enough authority to steer us through the deadly Covid crisis. But now I seriously think the PM has to go. At this critical time he’s chosen loyalty to the elite over service to Britain.
The damaging thing about this whole issue for gov is that Cummings instantly loses any right to tell others they are out of touch / elite / missing the public mood. That’s properly over now. He has become the thing he loathed.
As long as they can guarantee the safety of all. Teachers, pupils and any other support staff. Confidence in politicians to make the right decision now is very low.
@LaylaMoran typical response from a Government that continues you blank the hard questions and forget their obligations to protect the people and do the right thing. The people will not forget their betrayal
I asked @michaelgove if Govt would consider asking for even a short extension to the transition period to avoid a no-deal Brexit. Combined with COVID crash, that would be disastrous. Instead of answering, he chose to engage in cheap point scoring. The public deserve better.
It’s my daughters 12th birthday today. Like everyone else, she can’t have an actual party or see her friends properly in lockdown - so I’m seeing if she can get a few likes, retweets or “Happy Birthday Maya” replies please.
Are you for real. That couldn’t be further from the truth. To slow to act, still promising the same things to help out wonderful NHS + for the last 5 weeks. It’s disgraceful and they should be held accountable once this is over.
