@bwars2000 please can you advise time of year to cause least disturbance to bank hosting large population of both Andrena cineraria & Colletes hederae? Ideally would be left undisturbed, but any recommendations we can pass on to local church who plan to dig in a notice board?

2 tree planting events at: KSCC Football Copse (meet in car park) & Hall Close (meet by green container at back of school). Bring spade, gloves & wrap up warm! Bring hot drink & we'll bring cake.

Thank you to all who helped with hay cutting at Hall Close today. Scything & raking are both quite a work out! We're managing this area like a traditional hay meadow - cutting at this time of year & removing cuttings to decrease soil nutrient levels, thus benefitting wildflowers

@FoFineshade wonderful to see a #PurpleEmperor butterfly feeding on a Swedish whitebeam trunk yesterday at #fineshade Northants. Presume it was feeding on sap, though I couldn't see any. It was so busy feeding I was able to get really close! @MatthewOates76 @ForestryEngland

A very interesting thread, full of sense (I recommend reading all 17 parts). Rest assured, our fledgling meadow area at Hall Close is full of genuinely native wild plants, with locally collected seeds added to the existing grass sward when it was cut &raked. It's developing well!

It's "wildflower" season again on social media. Great colourful displays BUT issues which need to be raised :
1) They are often not WILDFLOWERS
2) They are not the best for INSECTS, they may be (not always) to POLLINATORS
3) They certainly aren't MEADOWS

What a glorious day we had yesterday at our autumn workshops. The sun shone whilst we made delicious apple juice, and we now have lots of bat boxes and bird boxes to put up around Ketton. Many thanks to all those involved. @kettonnews
