Incredibly impressive @CIJ_ICJ from South Africa, everything that’s openly available for all to see presented with clarity. It has been hard for broadcasters or journalists to tell the full story without access but neither @BBCNews@SkyNews showing this live as it unfolds. Why ?
It's related to confused or false messaging rather than lack of concern - eg that it's 'mild', masks dont work and a constant public discourse of the pandemic as being in the past. So the pile of masks and sign if read at all may be seen as left overs.
The moral injury of considering that 90% of people wouldn't take the smallest step to protect someone else's life is huge- so if you are one of those people, and it isn't just apathy- please explain this to me. Because I don't want to live my life in a world that cares so little.
@Telegraph "This person who suffers a hereditary disease has a lifelong cost of 60.000 Reichsmarks to the National Community. Comrade, that is your money too."
You are literally repeating a Nazi propaganda poster from 1938

@JMPSimor I wonder what triggered this opportunity-denying small-mindedness, this shrinking of our horizons and economy, this permanent hostility, this national humiliation…
“You have cut local services to the bone - and then you worry about antisocial behaviour?”
This #bbcqt audience member gives an excoriating appraisal of the government’s performance, saying she’s “staggered” at the gap between the audience and the panel

1/ I've had the great privilege of speaking to a number of people over the past couple of weeks who are all trying to avoid infection / re-infection with SARS-CoV-2. People of all ages and all walks of life. I'm very well aware of the silo / echo chamber effect here...
@chrischirp How does your figure of 33,000 compare to this BBC report:
"the same database reveals that 46,099 people had perished from Covid-19 in England – "

This is not fatigue.
I was an athlete. I've done a whole basketball practice with a fever. I've had morning classes and workouts while sleepless for 24+hrs. Nothing comes close to this. This feels like being allergic to exertion while having a brain Injury.
#LongCovid
Odd how this instantly generates propaganda on lockdowns- they actually have multiple contradictory effects - like less road accidents and a decline in crime such as robbery and assault outside the home. But the main point is to get a public health response now to eliminate Covid
@richardhorton1 A word on the selling off of our incredibly valuable national assets might have helped. Even after being stripped for dividends they are still too valuable for us to have . Where would the public finances be now if we still owned gas, electricity, water, BT, BP etc?

Of all the words written about the catastrophe of the past week, this letter in the FT sums it up best of all. And it’s worse than we might have thought.
The lack of discussion and policy on covid other than vaccination can result in deaths, long covid, more variants and the possible demise of the NHS. So that's a few things to discuss.
It is appalling that something like this should be written by a local authority and displayed. Saw it today on Lunderston beach, 'Witchcraft was rife ' . Really ? Dont you mean false accusations and persecution.

@StuartMaconie As a 17 y/o in 1980 I was given a copy of "Trade Unions and the Media" by Peter Beharrell and @greg_philo (possibly the very book - or one of the books - you're referencing?).
It transformed how I read/listened to and interpreted reporting of events.
Several people have reached out to me with this problematic article in the Guardian. Having read it, I think it needs a thorough rebuttal. So here goes. 🧵
