Mendoza won a chess match by burning Wagaman to get a favorable matchup for Melendez, and got a sac fly insurance run
Then he immediately lifted Brooks Raley with two lefties due up, didnt use Weaver to even do so, and let the Marlins tie the game
What am I missing
To @gregcut_ point, 3/6 (50%) of the top teams in terms of payroll would make the playoffs if the season ended today, compared to 8/15 (53%) teams that would have to raise their payrolls under this fugazi proposal
Take it from Mets fans, spending does not equal winning
Owners are basically saying “we’ve always been able to spend $171m+, but don’t want to” and want fans to think the top 6 teams are the issue.
Look at NYM, spending ≠ winning.
Adjustments to deferrals + forcing owners to spend instead of pocketing rev sharing is the way.
#Mets went into 2026 assuming:
- A rookie would become an ace with 0 regression
- Multiple injury-prone guys would stay perfectly healthy
- Questionable bullpen guys would bounce back
And none of them happened.
That's what happens when you ASSUME from trends and analytics #LGM
GGs.
One of Stearns' best moves this offseason was not extending Peralta. I really like Freddy, but he is not a big $$$ ace. Truly lives up to the "5-inning Freddy" nickname. #Mets#LGM
The Mets are calling up A.J. Ewing, source confirms @WillSammon report. It's an aggressive promotion after just 13 games at Triple-A, but all Ewing has done is hit. Perhaps he can help an offense that still has yet to hit its stride.
This. Stearns has done great things in the org in terms of revamping a bottom-tier farm system in a matter of years.
That said, his MLB moves have been highly questionable. Get someone in the door who can push the MLB team, while Stearns oversees the whole system. #Mets#LGM
I am not defending David Stearns. His MLB moves the past three years have a 25-75 hit rate at this point.
Best practice is probably keeping him as PoBO, and getting someone to serve as a GM under him that can make roster construction decisions.
I dont think this happens either
