@UMichMedSchool@UMichSurgery@UMich@umichmedicine Dr. Bartlett was the first UM attending I worked with as an intern. First day of residency, he came to the bedside of a patient who was transferred from an outside hospital to the ICU and asked, "Have you ever put anyone on ECMO?" A gentleman scholar of the highest order.
@carhigueramd We do this a fair amount. If the "spacer" is functional, not loose, infected, dislocated, or broken, why do another surgery that has its own set of risks?
@Chris_Anders91@JArthroplasty Congrats to our superstar VCU resident! Thanks to HSS Complex Joint Reconstruction Center Research team for the great mentorship! Setting the bar high!
@ArthroToday@CedarsSinai@theartfu1doctor@HusseinTaki@ChrisGraysonMD1 We usually do articulating spacer with PROSTALAC stem and poly liner with spiderweb pattern on backside - 6-8 mm larger nominal size than the cup taken out. Can function indefinitely in a significant number of patients and eases revision when needed.
@ArthroToday@mirandaortho@heckmannortho @nmiladoremd We stopped routine catheterization in recent years. Saves time and money and UTI risk, with no significant change in POUR. Took some convincing for the OR and PACU team.
@ArthroToday@marcusmilderman@TruOrthoSA Intriguing idea. I feel there are 2 big groups of rec cannabis use. Those that use heavily and are difficult to control pain post op and those that are not heavy users. It is this group that I believe it may be helpful. Also the topical options are great for some patients
