A ground-hugging HP mesocyclone, and violent smaller tornadoes rapidly swirling around in carousel fashion, made this event particularly terrifying and dangerous. Situational awareness was lost on so many chasers.

OTD 13 years ago, May 31, 2013, @JustonStrmRider and I documented a megawedge tornado over El Reno, Oklahoma. It's max diameter of 2.6 miles made it the widest known tornado in history. Unfortunately, it caused 8 fatalities, including 4 storm chasers. #okwx
