A very close friend of mine has had to close down one of his businesses in the innercity this week owing to loadshedding. At stage 6 thereโs no way to sustain a business that heโs been subsidizing personally for the last year. 10 people have lost their jobs and the city has lost a budding tenant.
Listening to the sadness in his tone in our call last night was difficult. SMMEโs are the engine of our economy. This is where jobs are created. If we lose them, the multiplier effect kicks in and more people become economically redundant.
I donโt think we fully appreciate the full, long term, extent of the effect this energy crisis has on our economy. We are not angry enough at those responsible for this mess ๐ข
