“Por eso podemos decir que los vietnamitas no solo lucharon por ellos: ¡lucharon por todos los pueblos del mundo, lucharon por la causa de la liberación de la humanidad, lucharon por la causa del socialismo y del comunismo! Los hombres que allí murieron, murieron también por nosotros. ¡Y la humanidad agradecerá eternamente esos servicios a #Vietnam!”

empathy is so foreign to the average white westoid that somebody who actually has it and isn't ashamed to show it is mocked.
also, notice how nobody mocks people who get choked up visiting holocaust museums? it's only black suffering that is expected to be treated as a joke. having empathy for black people is seen as wrong
Black Americans should ask themselves why Democrats are never this coordinated in their messaging when it comes to condemning anti-Black racism against the people they call the base of their party.
Here is what the framework of pure power realism cannot explain:
Why the Vietnamese won.
Not how. The tactical and strategic explanations are available and interesting.
Why, in the sense of: what made it possible for a materially inferior party to sustain resistance against a materially overwhelming one for thirty years until the overwhelming one left?
The realist answer is self-interest. People fight for their survival.
But self-interest calculation, done rationally, would have produced surrender much earlier. The material costs of continued resistance were catastrophic. Three million dead. Generational chemical contamination. The destruction of infrastructure, agriculture, cities.
A purely self-interested calculation of expected outcomes, done at any point during those thirty years, would have recommended negotiated capitulation over continued resistance.
The Vietnamese did not make that calculation.
They made a different one, one that included things the realist framework has no variable for.
The value of dignity.
The meaning of the land.
The continuity of a people across time.
The relationship between the living and the dead and the unborn.
The idea that some things are worth more than survival.
Those things are not self-interest in any material sense.
They are, in the language that realism dismisses as naive, something closer to values.
And those values, held by enough people, with enough depth, over enough time, defeated the most powerful military in human history.
The framework that cannot account for that outcome is not a complete framework.
It is a lens that sees some things with great clarity.
And is blind to the things that matter most.
Was the Soviet Union a Colonial Power?
In both intent and practice, the Soviet Union is fundamentally different than Western colonialism.
Acknowledging certain failures is not the same as accepting the analytical framework of colonialism in which those failures are being interpreted. It also means not every criticism or apparent failure of the USSR is legitimate either. Nor should one wholesale accept the failures of the Soviet Union based on ethno-nationalist or capitalist criteria.
It's possible to conceive of "mass politics" that means politically educating the masses to support defund/abolition/reparations etc, but history of white supremacist class collaboration shows how difficult it would be in practice, so idea is instead labeled "unserious" or ultra
Can only hear so many times DSA members/Jakobin writers invoke "mass politics" to attack black-led movements and theories of black liberation and/or white supremacy, anything redolent of "black radicalism", before I begin to conclude that "mass politics" is code for anti-black
It's strange to suggest members shouldn't talk publicly about DSA's strategic differences when there have been dozens of mainstream newspaper accounts of these published in the last few weeks (with quotes from all sides), when every single one of our candidates gets grilled on whether they agree with the new platform, and when Twitter remains DSA's main arena for debate
Our differences aren't a secret! I hope people who disagree with me and others on what mass politics looks like at this moment can start responding more on the politics rather than the procedure/form, it'd make for a more productive conversation
The logic is simple to these white nationalist chauvinists posing as socialists, blacks are 13% of the population, the whites they covet and their morally cretinous "democratic" "mass politics" need are 60-70%, blacks are expendable, whites are not
@maoisthnvx_25 I’ve always believed that, putting aside whatever Diangelo has ever said or written about it, in a broad but very real sense the concept has fundamental validity that any non-white person who has tried talking to white people about racism/white supremacy can attest to
Believing colonialism, slavery, patriarchy, imperialism and genocide are bad and wrong is "woke", so unless you, a so-called leftist, think they are, in fact, good and right, maybe the shut the fuck up and realize fascists aren't talking about annoying libs when demonizing "woke"
Who needs fascists when your most prominent so-called "socialist" officials are busy denouncing basic systemic left-wing anti-capitalist/anti-racist critiques of the state as "crazy"
@meagankday White supremacy is not seen as the class-collaborationist ideology and practice par excellence responsible historically and presently for the dearth and repeated death of socialist possibility in america, it's seen as a boutique moral concern. this is why they will always fail.
@meagankday it needs to be said plain, Jacobin is a rat's nest of right-opportunists w/ national chauvinist social imperialist tendencies that have a conception of "mass politics" requiring the repression of black radicals ("woke") and the recruitment of unreconstructed white supremacists
to hear these buffoons tell it there must have been a vindictive "left-wing culture" or "radical excesses" responsible for the death of reconstruction and the backlash to mass incarceration, funny how the white supremacists and fascists are always off the hook
DSA/Jacobin types hate every minute they have to pretend to care about racism or cops murdering black people, they recognize their credibility as "leftists" requires it to a degree but they really think black people ie "woke" and "idpol" are why we don't have socialism
It means the entire left-wing culture of self-righteous maximalism, moral accusation, and thought-destroying clichés that prevented and still prevent open dialogue about how the world actually operates and which agendas we should pursue. It deserves disparagement!
no, it's most definitely NOT white supremacy or class collaborationism, all the good kind-hearted patriotic white boys they covet so much for "mass politics" would be socialists if it wasn't for the uppity america-hating n*gs demanding reparations and an end to mass incarceration
