All these sexy words like open innovation, collective intelligence, problem-oriented this, that, the other--that assumes we know how to work together. But if I don't value you, I'm probably not going to work very well with you.
My new book, The Common Good Economy, asks a simple question: what is the economy for, and how should people relate to one another inside it?

In 1822, French mathematician Joseph Fourier introduced the Fourier Transform while studying how heat moves through objects.
Today, the same math is used in image compression, music and audio processing, MRI scans, WiFi signals, and phone communication. A 200 year old idea is still running modern technology.
“At first I wasn’t sure that I had the talent, but I did know I had a fear of failure, and that fear compelled me to fight off anything that might abet it.”
Gordon Parks
We can't do 'good' in the economy, without a theory of what 'good' looks like. The how matters as much as the what. How we relate to each other, how we value each other, how we work together, how we govern our economy — these are not secondary questions. They define whether we actually reach collective goals.
