"Can any thinker or researcher involved in any field of study produce meaningful knowledge when they lose touch with what they study, all in the name of objectivity? Can you at once gain depth and understanding with indifference?" (Anzaldúa) https://t.co/wNYdzMIe45

The African National Congress of South Africa’s Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula has blocked Wits University’s O.R Tambo School of Leadership from hosting Zimbabwean public intellectual Dr Ibbo Mandaza’s public lecture on the state of democracy in the SADC region reflecting on the national elections in Zimbabwe.
In an email Mbalula sent to the University today from Harare where he has been wining and dining with his ZANUPF colleagues, Mbalula said Dr Mandaza’s public lecture would mess up private ANC/ZANUPF discussions.
The lecture was supposed to take place on the 7th of September at the University.
There is disgruntlement amongst some in the ANC about Fikile Mbalula’s shameless embrace of ZANUPF and his social media posturing defending rigged elections calling them democracy.
Mbalula has gone further to insult Zimbabwe’s main opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, calling him a Western puppet!
His intervention to stop Dr Mandaza’s lecture came after senior ZANUPF leaders lobbied him to have it canceled, a move that shows how ZANUPF’s hand is now strengthened in controlling even intellectual matters in South African universities through Mbalula.
The irony of him calling Chamisa a puppet is not lost on many in this regard!
A South African senior civil servant commented off the record on how Mbalula’s irrational behaviour has seen questions being asked on whether ZANUPF money has been used in ANC leadership elections to prop up its ANC puppets in exchange for support of its rigged elections, repression and corrupt rule!
An academic at Wits Unibody asked why what Dr Ibbo Mandaza was going to say would be an issue to any negotiations the ANC is having with ZANUPF unless ZANUPF actually rigged the elections in Zimbabwe.
“Mbalula’s unprecedented intervention shows that the election was rigged,” she said.
“What does Mbalula know about the Zimbabwean election that he is worried about, and why would it jeopardise ANC private discussions with ZANUPF,” she retorted adding that Mbalula was bringing Zanupf-ism to an academic institution.
A complaint has been lodged at the European Court of Human Rights against Germany on the death of Oury Jalloh (Articles 2, 3, 5 and 14 ECHR). Many friends and colleagues have asked over the years whether this was an eventual possibility, and yes, the day has come.
Police in #Tunisia’s 2nd largest city, Sfax, have begun mass expulsions of Black migrants & refugees to 🇹🇳’s militarised Libya border.
These expulsions—in which police have reportedly broken migrants’ phones, likely to dissuade them from returning—are likely to escalate fast.
For everyone not following Dutch politics closely, what's being discussed for the future of higher education in this country is truly insane, not even indicted former US presidents could come up with something more stupid. Buckle up! https://t.co/v39H6kbOET
The fact that the people of Greece took to the streets in Athens, Thessaloniki and many other cities today to demand accountability for the murderers of refugees should be an example for all peoples. As a refugee journalist living in Greece, I am grateful!!!
