3) philanthropists and nonprofits prefer networks to increase impact, and these networks 4) privilege middle class and mainstream interests, the often unrecognized benefactors of philanthropy: https://t.co/1f7PutTALE

The book argues four main points: 1) that the donor base is more diverse than typically recognized, 2) that Hoosiers were adopters and adapters of ideas as much as innovators,
Happy to have worked with @BrendaKBushouse and Alan Abramson on this history. Thanks to @ChaoGuo1 Angela Bies and Susan Phillips for including this piece in @NVSQuarterly. ARNOVA has overcome many challenges to help build knowledge of nonprofits, philanthropy and civil society.
@zeithistoriker Doctorates in public policy or public affairs, social welfare, and in philanthropic studies—I used to direct the last. All can have a nonprofit focus. And you know the great sources at places like the Rockefeller Archive Center, Columbia, NYPL etc.
@zeithistoriker I'd like to see more people with historical interests get a doctorate studying nonprofits and philanthropy. The money and institutions address so many societal issues that I'm somewhat surprised that few historians have remained engaged in this space.
Nonprofit scholars attending #AOM2022 say hello to @HilaryClaggett and find out about Georgetown’s Book Series on Philanthropy, nonprofits, and Nongovernmental orgs. Hilary is the acquisition editor for this series and a global business series. Enjoy the conference.
For the first time in my career, I examined literally musty files—they were damaged in Superstorm Sandy. I masked up and wore gloves. I feel like that is one more spot on my historians bingo card I can mark off and hope it’s the last time I need to do it.
@teddyschleifer A friend got one same day in 2019 by lining up at the passport office early in the morning—before 6:00. It is at 376 Hudson Street. They issued one within a few hours. She didn’t need an appt. It was faster than a service at the time and much cheaper. Good luck.
