"Statistics for Non-Statisticians" by Birger Stjernholm Madsen (Springer, 2nd Edition)
The book title every PhD student wishes they'd found in Year 1.
If you're a researcher who needs to understand statistics without becoming a statistician, this is your roadmap.
What makes it valuable:
Written specifically for people who need to use statistics in their research, not people who want to become stats experts.
Perfect for:
- PhD students analyzing data
- Researchers reviewing statistical methods
- Anyone who needs to interpret p-values without a math degree
- People who freeze when they see regression analysis
The reality:
Most researchers aren't statisticians. But most research requires statistical analysis.
This book bridges that gap - explaining statistical concepts in ways that non-specialists can actually understand and apply.
No shame in needing help with statistics. The shame is in using methods you don't understand and publishing questionable results.
Better to learn it properly than fake it badly.

ColdTrace Transport project rolled out training for immunization officers from across Tanzania & Zanzibar, equipping them with tools and knowledge to maintain vaccine potency during transport.
As a result, over 450 district officers have been trained and 315,000+ minutes of transport monitored, drastically reducing wastage by 30%. This great progress for ensuring vaccines reach even the most hard-to-reach communities.

As we join the global community in commemorating Immunization Week, @ECSA_HC proudly reaffirms its unwavering commitment to immunization as a cornerstone of public health and a critical pathway to equity and resilience across our region.
This year's theme, "Immunization for All is Humanly Possible," resonates deeply with our shared vision, underscoring not only the progress made but also the urgent need to close gaps and reach every individual, regardless of geography or circumstance.
Immunization continues to be one of the most effective and life-saving public health interventions. It protects individuals, strengthens communities, and contributes directly to broader health goals, including universal health coverage and sustainable development.
ECSA-HC stands firmly alongside its Member States in accelerating efforts aligned with the Immunization Agenda 2030, a global strategy committed to reducing vaccine-preventable diseases, ensuring equitable vaccine access, and integrating immunization within primary health care systems.
We call upon all governments, partners, health workers, and communities across East, Central, and Southern Africa to seize this moment. Let Immunization Week 2025 serve as a catalyst for renewed action, to reach the unreached, restore essential services, and
reinvigorate our collective momentum toward IA2030 goals.
Together, we can ensure that no child, no community, and no country is left behind.
