I will piss some therapists off but this is why I believe the horse is a better option for mental and emotional health. No hard feelings.

The horse's conformity is state-dependent, it only lasts as long as you're standing there. The moment you walk away, the horse goes back to being a horse. It doesn't carry your fear home, doesn't dream about it, doesn't start seeing the world through your trauma.
A therapist's conformity is identity-level. They spend eight hours a day in someone else's emotional world, and their brain starts treating that as normal. That's how you get burnout, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma. The professional's own nervous system gets rewired by the job.
The horse never has to "deal with" your feelings. It just responds to them in the moment, then lets them go. No residue.

A few years ago, a veteran called me at 3 in the morning. He told me he was going to end it all because he was tired of struggling... I told him to jump in his truck and meet me at the horses...

On my way to the ranch I started thinking to myself if this was the right thing to do? I don't even know this guy. Is he going to be dead when I get there? Is he going to do something to me and my horses?

I pull up, and he is standing at the gate with his head down and shoulders sunken in. This was not a soldier anymore he was a broken man. We went out to the pasture and just sat as the horses came by one by one greeting him. You should have seen his body language start changing. Even when he left, his handshake was firm, and his head was up. Its absolutely what horses can do for your mind and heart in just a short period of time. Today his life has completely changed. His marriage is doing great, his kids are doing great in school and he has his own electric business... P.S. he also kicked his therapists and medication to the curb.

Saturday I buried a good friend who died by suicide. Monday morning, my first client walked in, someone who's tried to end their life more than once. I run an equine-assisted therapy program for people who've been through hell. Horses don't do small talk. They read the whole body. The way you hold your shoulders, how you breathe, whether your weight shifts when you think no one's watching. They don't care what you say. They respond to what's actually true in you, and that kind of honesty is exactly what grief teaches. Grief isn't a liability here it's what makes our program useful. Because grief is the one thing you can't fake, and neither can the people around you. When you've stood at that grave, you stop offering empty reassurance, you offer presence instead. And presence is what actually reaches someone who's been through hell. Some people think I shouldn't talk about these things on social media. I think it's important because it could help somebody today or in the future.

THE WAKE-UP CALL FOR HUMANITY

I stopped eating sweets years ago. I still drink my Red Bull—and yes, I know it’s not good for me. That’s my conscious choice.

But here’s the bigger question:

Why have we collectively accepted a food system where things that damage our health are marketed to us as normal food?

We’ve been conditioned to accept poison with a label, a logo, and a catchy commercial—and then wonder why humanity is getting sicker.

This isn’t about one candy bar, one soda, or one energy drink.

It’s about what we’ve been trained to accept.

Wake up.

Question what you’re consuming. Question what you’re being sold. Question why “food” has become something that requires a chemistry degree to understand.

Because at some point, humanity has to stop blindly accepting the poison and start demanding better.

This is the wake-up call. How much more are we willing to accept?

K9 Scout worked himself to death tracking a fugitive in the Virginia woods.

Four year old bloodhound. First one Suffolk PD had in nearly 50 years. On May 26, 2025 he searched heavy woods near the 8100 block of South Quay Road for a wanted man. Hours later the heat and the work caught up to him. He went into distress and died the next morning at the vet.
Over 100 tracks. Multiple awards. Quietly did the job until the job took him.

These dogs give everything and ask for nothing. Most folks never notice until one is gone.
