India marked the International Snow Leopard Day with #23for23, promoting physical activities undertaken for 23 minutes in a bid to raise awareness for conservation of snow leopards.
Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji, India's snow leopard conservation efforts are showing encouraging results. The first-ever snow leopard census reveals 718 individuals across the Himalayas, with Ladakh alone hosting 477 of them.
I congratulate all those who came together to mark the day with innovative activities. A special thanks to the Indian Army for joining in.

Today, the world celebrates International Snow Leopard Day for the first time - a global observance whose origins lie in Kyrgyzstan.
For us, this is a moment of great pride: an initiative born in the heart of our people has gained recognition across the world.
The snow leopard is the spirit of our mountains - a symbol of freedom, resilience, and love for our homeland. Like our people, it never abandons its peaks, even in the harshest of times.
When we proposed to the United Nations the establishment of this day, our goal was not only to protect a rare species, but also to safeguard our nature, our mountains, and our sources of life. By protecting the snow leopard, we are protecting ourselves - and the future of our planet.
Today, I call on all the people of Kyrgyzstan and our friends around the world to dedicate 23 minutes of movement - a walk, a run, or any active gesture - in honor of the guardian of our mountains.
Let this day remind us all: protecting nature is our sport, and saving the snow leopard is our shared victory.
