Toto Wolff says George Russell’s problem
at the start was “fully on us as a team & it isn't good enough.”
“He has suffered too many of these problems; we are doing everything we can to get on top of them, but it is unfortunately another issue that has cost him again today.”
Russell said: “We did all the procedures as we normally do but it didn't behave as we expected. The anti-stall then kicked in & we dropped to the back of the field.”

lando: "if the pace can be that strong on a day like today, i'm confident we can still win more races this year but we have certain areas we have to improve on.. we'll still work hard but the team deserve a good break and so do i"
🗣️ Fernando Alonso:

🗣️ Oscar Piastri after the race:
“The strategy was okey. On the strategy side I get it. Clearly the pace on the tyre wasnt very good at all and then there was a guy who was blind out there which didnt help, that’s the first way I lost the chance to fight for the win. Then obviously I had no pace to try to fight back”

🗣️ Lando Norris on the race:
“I don’t know what happened [at the start], to be honest. I just kept losing the rear, I had like three or four big snaps. It felt horrible.”
“Oscar did a good job to get the cut back and get back past. I think I was just a bit wide in the dirt, and game over for the first lap.”
“But I was pushing like hell to try to force him into a mistake or something. My pace today was probably some of the best pace I’ve ever had. The car was beautiful to drive and I felt very confident, so a great race.”
“And to get it back in terms of going long, which is certainly not what I was expecting, but the pace was so good I could always extend the stints, and fresh tyres then always won me the race.”
“I’m just happy to be back and see the number one again.”
On winning other races this season:
“I want to believe so. Considering how good it felt today, I certainly want to believe that we can continue it. There’s going to be moments where we’re going to struggle more and moments that might be even better."
"We know this track is a good one for us, probably one of my best suited track of the year. This is maybe as good as it can look for now, but I certainly believe we can still win races."
"I knew it was coming. The team have put so much work in to make a car that can finally win again. It’s nice to be able to do it for them.”

🗣️ Andrea Stella on the race:
"Great to see the car being competitive for a pole position and being competitive for a victory."
"Great to see that hard work has been rewarded."
"Lando was in condition to squeeze every single millisecond off the car, which was good enough yesterday for the pole position - which was 12 milliseconds - but today, if anything, the pace was even more encouraging."
"As soon as Lando was in the lead he proved he had a decent margin."
"So great news there but obviously quite a lot of work to do for reliability."

🗣️ Andrea Stella on Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri racing each other:
"I think today was actually great racing."
"It was great to see Lando and Oscar fighting at the start for the position. Something fair, that's what our drivers do."
"Then Oscar had his own chance to take the lead and see what pace he might have had. How the race unfolded meant that with Oscar we went and covered Hamilton and then there was a situation with the backmarkers."
"Lando was very quick once he had the lead and he took advantage of this pace and the fact that there was some delay for Oscar."
"That's racing. We are McLaren Racing and today was great racing."
On whether Oscar will ultimately see no reason to feel aggrieved with the team:
"I think Oscar will have already. It's enough for him to take a look at the race trace, see that Lando gained the time thanks to his pace and to some extent this loss with the backmarkers is just an unlucky situation."
"So it's racing. It was fair racing. Some of the good racing we saw last year. I have to thank Lando and Oscar once again of being so supportive of the team. We have two great drivers and hopefully we will be contention for these positions over the rest of the season."

🗣️ Oscar Piastri on the race:
"[The start] was definitely the highlight of my race and it went pretty downhill from there."
"A lot of things to unpack. Firstly, the pace on the hard tyres was nowhere, and then obviously getting taken out by a backmarker is never really one of the things you think can go wrong. But I was proven wrong. Then obviously the gearbox, so not the easiest of days."
On timing of his second pit stop and his subsequent radio frustration:
"I was crashed into by Carlos and, in the moment, I was hoping maybe they would not pit Lando because of that incident to at least give me the chance to stay in the lead but I think that's not very reasonable."
"I was just more very upset in the moment about what had happened. I think the timing of my pit stop was fine, we wanted to beat Lewis and that's what we needed to do to."

🗣️ Andrea Stella after the race:
“I keep being positively surprised about the pace. Yesterday was a realising qualifying, today if anything in the race was even stronger. Especially as soon as Lando took the lead he gave the race a half a second pace which was good to see. We were in condition to fight for the victory even with Oscar.
We have to acknowledge that while we have these great news from victory at the same time one car didnt make it to the end and we lost several points. So bittersweet outcome today”

Not many comments.
Very disappointed in the pace, obviously. Serious rear deg issues, which have not improved in the slightest since we became aware of them in Miami.
There has to be more focus on resolving this when the backend of the calendar is mostly rear-limited tracks.
