Progressive engineering twitter (which includes plenty of people who write detailed blogs) seems to have shifted over swiftly and decisively. Admittedly Twitter is still generally better for product folks.

@codinghorror @Carnage4Life Oh completely agree. So many strange HRESULTs. Far too many from the COM message catalog thanks to Windows 8 SDK weirdness. Also I don't think the hard isolation of having 3 new OSes (hypervisor, SRA, ERA) ever paid for its complexity.

@Carnage4Life @codinghorror (9/9) Because MSFT was in stack-rank at the time, I remember getting my first 3 (on a 1-5) scale and my manager was like "You're doing great. The graphics team downstairs has literally been working 90 hours / week for 6 months". I left to Google 3 months after ship.

@Carnage4Life @codinghorror (8) The engineering org was basically in crunch for 14 months. It was a true deathmarch, but we expected that because that was the rep associated with shipping a game console. Honestly I saw the most amazing IC engineering work of my career by the people who got it out the door.
